Baker's Boil to benefit kids with cancer
The Dewville Social Club’s 21st annual Baker’s Boil for Kids Cajun Cook-off will take place Saturday, April 27, at the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Hall. Gates open at 11 a.m. with all-you-can eat crawfish for per person. Other activities include free music all day, washer tourney, kids’ prizes, and silent and live auctions. Proceeds benefit Sky High for Kids, a nonprofit supporter of children undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening conditions. Joette Barnes is the new chief instructional officer for the East Central Independent School District. She has, until recently, been the principal of Oak Crest Elementary School, where she has been instrumental in cultivating a collaborative culture and a unified vision for school improvement. Bears triumph over Apaches, Rockets
The La Vernia Bears continued their impressive 8-0 run in baseball district play, with a sound defeat of Gonzales 6-2 last Tuesday evening, April 16, led by a strong performance on the mound from senior Carter Keck (15), who only allowed two runs over seven innings of play. He finished off the night striking out eight Gonzales batters and walking two. The Bears jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning from a Bronson Lange (12) single to score 1 run. Beeville Museum exhibits open April 27
“The Art of Sibling Harmony” will be on display at the Beeville Art Museum from April 27–July 27. The exhibition will feature Beeville natives and siblings Tom Beasley, a painter, and his sister, professional photographer Cissy Beasley. The exhibit will include a wide assortment of Tom’s pastels and Cissy’s photography, featuring nature, landscape, and wildlife along the Texas Coast and Southwest Texas.
