Maya is a senior with a 3.6 GPA, honor roll, and a transcript that says she’s college-ready. She couldn’t set up a one-step proportion on a standardized test. Nobody cheated. Nobody lied. The system worked exactly as designed — and that’s the problem. In this first episode, I lay out why average high school GPAs climbed from 3.17 to 3.36 while ACT scores fell to a 30-year low, and why 45% of seniors now score below basic in math while more than half have already been accepted to a four-year college. Then I walk through six steps any teacher can run in a single classroom on Monday to make every grade in the gradebook real — and one number, the Grade Honesty Gap, that tells your department how much of its honor roll can actually do the work.
