    29. Complexity of Complexion: Black Women's Perspective (Part 2)

Do you think colorism impacts Black women differently than Black men? We certainly do! In fact, we'd argue that Black men are the main purveyors of colorism (we still love ya'll though!) There are few topics in our community that are more divisive than colorism and in this episode we look to address the nuances of how Black women experience colorism, issues with their identity, worth, and safety based on their skin tone. We are joined by Nchimunya and Shay Bones, who share their personal stories on the stereotypes, traumas and complexity of their complexion.

Come Back!

I’m late to this show, finding it during the pandemic. Being from Oakland, I enjoy hearing voices from my town talk about Oakland.

Hmmm

I’m late to the show…I love that there is a podcast that represents Oakland and these ladies do a great job. However, no matter how much research you do and time you’ve spent admiring from afar it doesn’t feel right being that they are from San jo it’s NOT the same. Gentrification has made the rest of the bay cooler but back in the day, you knew when someone was from the suburb; they just don’t got that Oakland wizard magic. Like I watch shows about Caucasian’s go to Asia and fall in love then come back and write a book or start a show about life in *insert county here* this is what’s happening here. Episode one, about gentrification and the host said it’s debatable if they are part of the problem but “assumed” the answer is no because they are black. This isn’t about race, it’s about Oakland and it’s strong cultural heritage. Anyway, it’s a great podcast tho but….let’s be real tho. You already know what it is.

Insightful and Engaging!!!

Insightful and Engaging, great discussion by two wonderful women who are tryna raise awareness of the Black struggle and the discussion of black culture in America, by using the proxy of Oakland. While also showing the uniqueness of bay culture in Oakland as well. Keep up the great work! Much Love! 🙏
