Words with Dad is a podcast where me, dad, tells his kids, 13-year old Declan and 12-year old Seamus, stories about growing up. Hopefully, the stories will have a lesson to be learned, or at the very least, will make them and you laugh. This is not a parenting podcast. I am not trying to tell you how to “dad.” This is me talking about growing up, making bad or good decisions, and learning how to navigate life. Updated every Friday!

    S1E05 Seven Days

    In today's episode we navigate an extremely uncomfortable territory for the boys. We talk about my first real crush. The boys are not used to talking about girls and girlfriends. They all have cooties! I really tried to get them to share stories about their own crushes, but they were not ready, and they could not wait until the episode was over... so we kept it short. Enjoy the story of my first love, and first heartbreak.

    S1E04 Reckless Diving

    In this episode we dive into the repercussions of making bad decisions. Again. Dad shares his experience as a terrible diver and swimmer, and the boys open up about their own experiences with water. I do believe the boys learned an important lesson about respecting large bodies of water and making smart decisions, specially if such decisions can be life-altering decisions. We kept it light. We tried to laugh. Nonetheless, always remember to be safe and responsible around water.

    S1E03 Knot my Shoes!

    As we learned on Episode 1, Mud on the Wall, honesty is the best policy. However, sometimes honesty comes from a different place other than having good morals and knowing the difference between good and bad. On this episode we learn that sometimes being honest does not pay off... or does it? The boys also feel more comfortable sharing their own experiences with honesty, doing the right things at home and school, and how sometimes their little sisters like to bribe each other to get away with things. Join us in this exciting journey through stories told by a dad you don't know.

    Disclaimer: There is descriptive, somewhat graphic, language about injuries. Now that we get that out of the way, this is a story of giving a child only a few seconds to make a very important decision, that could possible affect his life. The boys open up about their own injury stories, and we talk about the different ways we reacted to the situation. Some of us were in shock and didn't handle it well. Others were not so much in shock, but did not handle it well either.

    Welcome to our first official episode. In this episode, I talk about my first day of first grade on a rainy day. Starting a new school year is always a little nerve wracking, but little did I know my first lesson would be presented to me even before school started. Honesty is always the best policy. Join us, as I tell the story of when I met my favorite teacher, Mr. Ricardo, and the muddy way we introduced ourselves as his new class.
