Carol Ann LaBounty – daughter of D-Day paratrooper

It’s Memorial Day weekend - a day for
remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. In a matter of
weeks, Carol Ann LaBounty and her family will undertake a journey thousands of
miles away. They’re headed to Normandy, France. This year marks the 80th
anniversary of D-Day, when allied forces stormed the beaches at Normandy in
what was a devastating battle in World War II. Carol and family will honor her
father who made quite a name for himself. 

Today we honor Carol Ann
LaBounty and her dad P-F-C George Rajner - a paratrooper - a member of East
Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment assigned to the 101st
Airborne Division of the United States Army better known as the BAND OF BROTHERS.

United Way 211 is a free and anonymous information and
referral service available to anyone in Lucas, Ottawa or Wood County with a
health or human service need. 211 has a database of thousands of different
health and human service resources for residents of Lucas, Ottawa and Wood
counties. 

 

It connects the community
with resource advisors 24/7 to get information about: food, housing and utility
assistance; employment services; childcare; healthcare; legal services; veteran
services; tax preparation services and so much more. Now, the United Way is
making an effort to educate teenagers about the service.

A Tale of Two Cities Within One City focuses on two neighborhoods, one that has the highest average life expectancy and one that has the lowest life expectancy, both in the same city, Toledo, and just less than four miles apart.



With this knowledge the Area Office on Aging felt the responsibility to try to do something to address this longevity gap that exists in our community.

They wrote POWERFUL PHRASES FOR DEALING WITH WORKPLACE CONFLICT to help all employees (and their managers) rebuild trust, collaboration, and ultimately enjoy more influence at work.

70% of participants in their survey report the same or more conflict over the last few years.

Only 30% reported less conflict - and nearly half of those say it’s because they (or the people they were in conflict with) changed jobs, or they’re working remotely.

Toledo: a tech town?

The gameplan for Toledo’s Uptown was set. There would be a technology incubator going into the newly refurbished Jefferson Center. The jobs and the production coming out of the center would revolutionize Toledo’s identity and future forecast. BITWISE was looking to branch out and bring its tech savvy into underserved communities and give individuals a hand up instead of a handout. However, it wasn’t to be - at least in that form - BITWISE would go belly up in a financial scandal that rocked the worlds of nearly 20 local employees who believed in the message and the mission. Still, there is a newly renovated historic building in Toledo’s Uptown district, and there are individuals with passion and purpose who still see the possibility that Toledo could still be a tech town and an innovation hub. In fact, coming up Thursday, June 13, Toledo will play host to the Activate - Innovate Conference. The list of speakers, influencers, and local leaders is impressive.
