Mind of State

Mind of State is a podcast where politics and psychology meet. Each episode features lively commentary on current events, policymakers, and the body politic, and how we have arrived at this moment, as observed through both a political and psychological lens. We explore how "mind" impacts "state" — and vice versa. Tune in, as co-hosts Betty Teng and Jonathan Kopp engage in nuanced conversation with experts from the worlds of politics and psychology as well as others from related fields who have studied the complex dynamics between individual/group psychology and political processes. Mind of State is produced by co-founders Betty Teng, Jonathan Kopp and Thomas Singer, together with Alletta Cooper and Jenny Woodward. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Thank you so much. I loved this podcast! I just listened to the episode about health and wealth. Such fascinating information about the economy and the intersection of that with health. In the midst of a global pandemic, we do need to make a choice about which one we care about more and whether or not we are able to sacrifice some wealth for the health of all.
One of the smartest things around!

Mind of State is one-stop shopping for anyone who wants to understand how and why things are the way they are right now. It’s smart and challenging, and at its base is optimistic in the best way. Politics, psychology, journalism, economic theory, and a whole lot more. Betty and Jonathan are great guides, and you’ll never close an episode without having learned many valuable things, and without having been challenged in the best way.

Like how both sides of an issue are represented here. This podcasts offers a good counterweight to the typical media podcast which often focuses on the fearful part of an issue which can raise anxiety. This podcast is grounded in the facts while putting information in context.

Mind of State offers a great twist on the political podcast by incorporating psychological and sociological concepts that offer unique and useful perspectives. If you are looking for a podcast that chooses to delve into the why instead of dwelling on the what and is illuminating and also practical check it out!
Interesting, relevant & thought provoking

Season 2 promises to be truly thought provoking. I love the framework of cultural complexes shared here (don’t miss this first episode); it’s refreshing to be presented with a new way of thinking about the world without feeling like someone is trying to brainwash me. The interplay of mind and state (psyche and polis) are nicely represented by Betty and Jonathan. You’ve got a fan in me!
This is just a fantastic podcast.

Mind of State delivers an insightful and analytical perspective on just about everything that matters: i.e.how and why we got here ( with Trump as president ),who we are today as a country and where we might be headed...and more. Both Betty Teng and Michael Epstein do a terrific job of interacting with their guests and reframing much of the conversation to make it more relatable and accessible. It’s smart talk at its best and although often scary, it’s thought provoking and addictive.

What a superb podcast. As the child of a psychoanalyst and a psychotherapist, I was particularly fascinated by this confleunce of politics and psychology. Well done!
