    Y11 Audio: Hurting, But Not Declining

    Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti’s college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com. Eastern Michigan is off to a 2-1 start on the season, and it’s not all roses. The Washington trip stung for not having scored any touchdowns. The Jacksonville State home opener definitely helped in that regard, but only for one half. By available yardage, EMU’s clearly taken a big step up offensively and unnoticeably up from last year, albeit through three games played this year. Let’s preview one of the more intriguing 3-team pods in the MAC this season. Bowling Green and Northern Illinois are ‘darkhorse’ candidates to win the MAC this year, but have major hills they still have to climb to get (back) to Detroit. As for Toledo, the people’s annual favorite (or runner-up), it’s certainly more of the same. But when’s the last time Toledo started a season off without any starting experience at O-line?     Previews Weeks: CMU, EMU, WMU

Let’s preview everything that EMU and the Mid-American Conference have to offer this season in the three weeks leading up to 2024’s season kickoff. The Michigan MAC trophy — middle America’s favorite three-team rivalry trophy. All of Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan have a ton to prove this season. Western Michigan, which saw great heights in 2016, would really like to get back to where it wants to be: nationally relevant. CMU’s trending down. EMU’s trending up.     Previews Weeks: Ball State, Miami (OH), Ohio

    Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio; and welcome to Previews Weeks! Let’s preview everything that EMU and the Mid-American Conference have to offer this season in the three weeks leading up to 2024’s season kickoff. The MAC has made a move to schedule its games with a four-pod structure. We’ll follow suit here with the second of four MAC team(s) preview episodes. Miami, the defending champions, get to have two rivalries in this new pod structure. Paired with Ohio (Battle for the Bricks) and Ball State (Redbird Rivalry, sure), the RedHawks are favorites by many to make a repeat run for the MAC championship. Sure the team loses some important parts, but it’s not right betting against a team that returns maybe the toughest quarterback in college football. Ohio and Ball State both have had some recent success — getting to (in Ohio’s case in 2022) or even winning (like Ball State in 2020) the MAC championship game in recent years. But, as we can see, it’s so much easier to fall from grace than keep up its championship-level momentum. Let’s preview everything that EMU and the Mid-American Conference have to offer this season in the three weeks leading up to 2024’s season kickoff. The MAC has made a move to schedule its games with a four-pod structure. We’ll follow suit here with the first of four MAC team(s) preview episodes. Akron, Buffalo, and Kent State features the Wagon Wheel rivalry and is the most northeastern pod on the MAC’s map. And, to be frank, while there has been some blips of success by these schools to at least find themselves in Detroit for the MAC championship game, they didn’t have the goods to come home with any MAC titles. And if anybody’s going to make it back to Ford Field, it’s going to be a much harder climb to get to the top of the standings.
