Mixtape Vol. #6: Boys & Girls Club of San Luis Valley

Welcome to Mission 1477, YEBO’s statewide storytelling initiative centering and celebrating the voices of people in our communities. The theme of this Mixtape is The Valley — stories from the San Luis Valley, CO. This installment was created alongside the Boys & Girls Club of the San Luis Valley and recorded live at their Alamosa Club site. Their commitment to helping young people grow into confident, caring, and responsible leaders aligns naturally with YEBO’s belief that every voice carries strength and history. In this episode, four storytellers share moments of growth, grounding, and generosity — stories shaped by family, friendship, faith, and the vast landscape they call home. Hosted by Isaura Maria, The Growing Storyteller Recorded by Cory Montalvo, Chief Plug Coached by Cristina Chacon, The Amplifier Edited and mixed by Jeanette Courts Recorded live at The Boys & Girls Club of San Luis Valley (Alamosa Club Site) Special Thanks to the Margulf Foundation for supporting this collaboration The Stories: (1:43) Vicky Corona — A high school senior reflects on the hardships that shaped her, offering her younger self a letter about survival, gratitude, and the people who kept her grounded. (4:24) Joselyn Mix — Navigating separation anxiety, shifting routines, and the pressures of school and theater, Joselyn finds steadiness through friendship, advocacy, and learning to breathe through change. (8:42) Abel Alirez — After a difficult day leaves him discouraged, Abel discovers how love, compassion, and a simple act of showing up can turn failure into reassurance and renewed confidence. (13:19) Ms. Felicia — A former Club kid turned Teen Director shares how mentorship reshaped her life, and why she now chooses to be that steady, caring presence for the next generation.
