Yellow Brit Road CFRC

Come for the pun, stay for the music. Yellow Brit Road is CFRC's weekly British music show on Sundays from 8 to 9 PM on CFRC Radio Queen's. We delve into music history, past interviews, bizarre reviews and media, discuss band lore, and do the occasional themed show: eras, regions, dialects, albums, poetry; everything is on the plate! The podcasted version of this show contains all your favourite band trivia and stories, but the music can be found on posted playlists that accompany each individual episode. Listen live on CFRC 101.9 FM or on cfrc.ca!

Yellow Brit Road 14 June 2026: Live from NXNE, The Bug Club Interview!

One of this show's favourite weeks of the year is whenever North By North East (NXNE) festival is taking place. Over the space of a week, emerging music and artists take over the city of Toronto, with venues putting on showcases of some of the most exciting names in the Canadian underground, along with a number of international artists as well. The cooler, more underground cousin of SXSW. And by goodness, is Canadian music having a year. Tune in to hear our coverage from over 4 days of the festival, bringing you a few highlights and music from some of the artists we managed to see, running between venues. We've also got exclusive interviews with the bands Black Paint, The Satisfactory and Neon Bloom! Apart from NXNE, we also have an interview with the irreverent Welsh rock trio The Bug Club, who are undertaking a pretty extensive Canadian tour starting this week! If you spot me at the Toronto show on 18th, come say hello, as most bands in small venues say, I don't bite. Note: the podcast version of this show mentions a few more NXNE bands we had to cut for time on the live show, but I'll include link to here. The magic of podcasting. Music this week by: Angine de Poitrine, Angelique Dancel, Black Paint, Teenage Joans, The Satisfactory, C. Ruth and the Mango Street Trio, Neon Bloom, The Bug Club. More interviews to come next week, and look out on the Yellow Brit Road socials for Milo and Nolan's photography from NXNE. Podcast cover's a proxy until we get stuff edited. Live Session: NewDad live @ The Danforth Music Hall, Toronto!

This week, we caught up with the Irish alternative and shoegaze band NewDad. Singer, lyricist and guitarist Julie Dawson came with our little team to Kops Records in Toronto for a quick interview, where singer, lyricist and guitarist Julie walked us through their latest album ‘Altar’, we talked about the album being inspired by their hometown of Galway, their feelings after playing a very successful Coachella set, about going independent and sticking to your guns as a woman in the music industry. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did! We also bring you a few selections from NewDad's incredible show that night at The Danforth Music Hall! You will hear the songs 1. Pretty 2. Something's Broken 3. Heavyweight and 4. Misery, all taken from Altar, their second album that came out last year. NewDad are still on tour, if you happen to be out west, they’re playing in Vancouver on Monday, 18 May at the Hollywood Theatre.
