    Build Life Around What Matters

    Build Life Around What Matters

Welcome to Season 3 of Yellow Soul!!

In this episode I pause amid my morning run to begin the New Year of 2024 with you in the prayer garden I've become so fond of! I've spent so much time with God there in 2023. Oftentimes tears would fall while just listening to the waterfall and contemplating my own life, other times I was pounding the pavement with prayers for the injustice I knew was unfolding in the lives of family members, friends, and for humans around the world.

For 24 minutes join me (with the waterfall in the background & cars zooming by on Main) for some hope, clarity, peace, and encouragement! We are built for the storm and Jesus isn't afraid of the chaos in our souls. Your inner resolve doesn't need to tiptoe around self-doubt, hatred, shame, and anxiety that may already be knocking on the door of 2024 for you. Living in the tension of pain and power isn't easy. Most days it will look like embracing rest as a weapon along with drawing the swords needed to fight for our mental resilience and will to live free! Together, in this episode, we begin by discussing our choices that lead us from longing into belonging, beautifully. There's never been a more perfect time to build life around what matters!

    Friends, we got this!

Groundtable {The Origin Stories} Eating Disorders, Healing Trauma & Undoing The Doing With Dr. Tanda Cook and Dr. Katie Collier

Groundtable {The Origin Stories} Eating Disorders, Healing Trauma & Undoing The Doing With Dr. Tanda Cook and Dr. Katie Collier

Welcome to Groundtable in 2024! With this episode my Co-host, Brit Albin, and I are launching "A Continuation of Wholeness" to kick off the new year. In this first new year's segment two very special guests join us at the table: Dr. Tanda Cook and Dr. Katie Collier!

Both doctors share the sentiment that everyone needs to go through recovery because we all have big "T"s and little "T"s "traumas" that affect every cell in our bodies, our gut, our nervous systems along with how they affect our brain development and our neurotransmitters. We all suffer due to most of us walking around with unresolved trauma. It's really getting to that level of healing. It's not just about eating again or gaining weight, it's about getting to the root of why we do what we do and then, once the root is uncovered we need all the tools and the village around us to support us as we walk out recovery and true, full-life integration of successfully living whole.

Dr. Tanda Cook and Dr. Katie Collier both agree on their journey's to wholeness it is the most beautiful unveiling and unbecoming of your truest self. This is deep, hard work for every human. In our dialogue today we uncover the reality that every soul needs to be tended to for recovery from micro and macro traumas in our lives. For too long we have minimized what it takes to heal and the healing it takes to live a life of freedom and strength.

Through the lens of both physicians, we learn the grit and determination it took as they pressed through the "restrict and binge" cycles and patterns of life that extend far beyond their eating disorders. We learn how to keep showing up consciously and subconsciously to look at ourselves and choose to be whole!

We believe this could be the best part of your day!

Escaping Pain to Finding Purpose w/Meyta (Brett Edmiston), Artist & Producer

Escaping Pain to Finding Purpose w/Meyta (Brett Edmiston), Artist & Producer

In today's episode, Musician & Producer, Brett Edmiston - Meyta, invites us into the moment, the shift that altered his life, forever. Through this powerful conversation he takes us into the moment, the brutal experience, that led him to where he is today.

Early on, making music helped him escape inner turmoil, but through this harrowing, defining moment, life came into focus, and purpose emerged from this pain! As he uncovered truth for his soul, music was no longer an escape, but the pathway to his purpose. He shares why and how his current #1 song, Like You, was created through a process of surrendering and inviting Jesus into the creative process. He shares, "If we let Jesus into the creative process, He creates with us."

Brett takes us on a deep dive into the shame culture he grew up in and yet, he can clearly see in reflection God's fingerprints all over his story! He shares a conversation he had with God as he heard Him say, "You still don't understand that I truly love you." Brett invites us in to consider that we are the ones who limit the conversations with God.

He shares his rhythms that are non-negotiable, his capacity for more, the practical steps he takes to silence the lies that show up in his life, and all the things that currently bring him joy!

Congratulations to Brett, (Meyta), on your new album, Reverse Psychology, released today, January 19, 2024! Find his new album on all streaming platforms.

We hope this is the best part of your day! Thank you for tuning in!

Phases of Grief, Spiritual Positivity, and Learning Lament with Clint D. Watkins

Phases of Grief, Spiritual Positivity, and Learning Lament with Clint D. Watkins

Welcome to this segment of Groundtable on Yellow Soul. In this episode my Co-host, Brit Albin, and I have Clint Watkins at the table. Clint is a husband, father, author, and full-time missionary. Clint walks us through the process of his own grief in the early stages of loss and beyond. We learn how the edges of his grief have smoothed out, and even though it's still there, through the healing, he's not wrecked by sorrow everyday. Clint got honest about being honest and invites us to not feel the need to edit what others may be experiencing in their own response to grief. Grieving, mourning, and lament, are all holy, sacred spaces we can give ourselves to and know that God will give of Himself with us in the process. God never leaves our story even when it feels like He is nowhere to be found.

Clint shares he really wrote his book, Just Be Honest, because often people believe that faith is being positive, faith is about polite prayers, faith and suffering is just talking about the happy things and silver linings- they're not bad things, but they're not the only things. Actually being honest about what we're going through with God and others is a primary way of faith according to the Scriptures. God pulls us into hope and helps us endure, not by sugar-coating or ignoring things but being honest with Him, other people, and with yourself about the pain you're going through. We can bring our whole-selves to the table with God and He doesn't hold our pain against us!

We learn how to navigate hard conversations and how to grieve our own losses while continuing to love and connect with others who are enduring pain too. Suffering and pain are inevitable in life and Clint shares why the Scriptures, specifically Job 42:7, are his True North regardless of where he is in his journey.

Clint takes some time to encourage the hearts of men that expressing emotions and being a strong man, a warrior if you will, are not mutually exclusive. Tears aren't weakness. We learn what was most helpful for him was having people in his life that gave him the space and permission he needed to grieve in his own way. Each person has a unique grief journey and showing up for others might look like just sitting in solitude with them while they weep. Often times we can feel ill-equipped to serve the heart of another human enduring pain, but then we realize it's not about us. If we will show up, God will do what He does best- work through us as a vessel of love.

We learn the rhythms he started with have changed over time, but many he still lives out today. The messy terrain of learning how he and his wife needed to grieve in their own way while also finding healthy ways to heal together.

We all experience pain and grief which is why we believe every human needs to hear this conversation. Instead of stumbling through grief, we can learn the permission of lament becomes a gateway for our own healing.

We believe this could be the best part of your day!

Don't Ever Stop Trying with Joshua Lee Flowers

Don't Ever Stop Trying with Joshua Lee Flowers

In today's episode, Artist & Creative, Joshua Lee Flowers talks about the day he didn’t feel like showing up, but he did anyways. That one choice literally changed his life forever and shifted how he lives, creates, and moves through life. When we don’t have the strength to keep going, and invite God into our weaknesses, His strength rescues us.

The most important practice in Joshua's life that keeps him grounded is constantly talking to God throughout his day. He shares how to choose a life with Jesus each day and how he's able to embrace the relational aspect authentically, freely, and without shame. Joshua has discovered rest in his life through the kindness of God continuously leading him back into His perfect, unconditional love.

We discover heaven's view of us is so different than how we see ourselves and God doesn't hold our weaknesses against us. When we show up, amid a negative view of ourselves, we experience His love the greatest and deepest. Is there anything greater than God's love rescuing us when we don't deserve it?  Joshua shares his biggest struggle in his life and how love, choices, and community have transformed his life!
