Your Listener

John Cuturilo

John Cuturilo, the counsellor of Your Listener Counselling in Melbourne, Australia, is the host of the Your Listener podcast. Discussing psychological topics including mental health, critical thinking, and social matters, he presents unique insights. Rather than lecturing coercively on what to believe, filling his discussions with provocative language or quotes from famous people, or political rhetoric, John explains how our minds work and the impact of this on how we operate individually and socially. He often helps his audience to realise that what we assume are truths are often ideas resulting from errors in thinking — to which all of us may fall subject. Through this, John encourages critical thinking, accepting responsibility for our flaws, the separation of criticising ideas from judging people, exercising our minds, and finding ways to live in harmony with and learn from each other rather than avoiding those who think differently. He also believes in helping his audience to develop more detailed, complex knowledge, rather than overly simplifying concepts to the extent that they become empty slogans. He maintains that while the quest for truth may never be completed, we should still strive to learn of it as only by doing this will we be the most independent and astute possible thinkers. If you have an idea for an episode, or would like to appear as a guest or collaborate, contact John to introduce yourself! John welcomes people of a broad range of backgrounds for discussion. John especially values the opportunity to discuss perspectives which differ from his. How children develop virtue with Susanne Gervay

In this episode, I had the great pleasure of speaking with Susanne Gervay, an accomplished Australian author and speaker whose experiences have inspired her life's journey of helping young people grow and develop resilience, compassion, and determination. I reveal the significance of Susanne's work in my own youth, before discussing the importance of young people's minds in developing virtue. With the still-held assumption that children are just chaotic tyrants who inherently are in need of fierce, fighting discipline, Susanne and I explore how proper nurturance of children helps them to reveal the power of their minds often hidden. To learn about Susanne and find her excellent literature for young people, visit her website: www.sgervay.com "Psycho Dad" by Tory and Susanne Gervay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqNOCtdoNCM&list=RDMqNOCtdoNCM&start_radio=1 "I Wanna Be Found" by Tory and Susanne Gervay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw0JRQVht3E We would also like to thank the Mabasta movement in Italy for helping young people develop the skills to recognise and combat bullying.
