If It Only Works One Way… It’s Not Actually Working

If you’ve ever felt like you’re searching for the right way to sing… this episode is your permission to stop. Because here’s the truth: there isn’t just one. In this episode, I’m breaking down why great singers don’t rely on one perfect technique—they build options. Your voice isn’t a formula, it’s a skill. And the more ways you can access ease, power, and consistency, the more reliable your voice becomes in real-world situations. We’ll talk about: Why chasing “the right way” can actually hold you backHow to start experimenting in your practice (without feeling lost)What it really means to build a strong, adaptable voice If something only works one way… it’s probably not as solid as you think. Your job isn’t to be perfect—it’s to explore, adjust, and build a voice that works for you. And if you’re ready for more structure in that process… inside the Vocal Pro Collective, you get live coaching, expert workshops, and a full training ecosystem to support your voice every step of the way: https://www.ambermoggcathey.com/collective If you’re looking for something more self-paced, the Voice Gym gives you 150+ guided exercises and weekly workouts so you always know exactly what to practice: https://www.ambermoggcathey.com/voice-gym And if you just want to get started today, grab my free sing-along warm-up—it's the perfect place to begin: Get a Free Sing Along Warm-Up + Belt Exercise Hosted on Acast. It's Not Your Breath

So many singers feel like they have a breathing problem. And while that can sometimes be the case, what often feels like poor breath “support” is actually incomplete vocal fold closure — air leaking through the sound instead of being efficiently used. When the vocal folds don’t connect fully and efficiently, phrases can feel breathy, unstable, and exhausting. You may feel like you’re constantly running out of air, when the real issue is coordination at the level of the folds. I n this episode of Vocal Tips in 10, we break down one of the most foundational skills in singing: vocal fold adduction. Strong, balanced closure is essential for efficiency, stamina, tone clarity, and stylistic freedom — even (and especially) for highly stylized contemporary singers. Inside this episode, you’ll learn: • How incomplete vocal fold closure can mimic poor breath support • Why “leaky valve” singing makes everything feel harder • Practical exercises to improve vocal fold adduction • How to use vocal fry, glottal onsets, and consonant-vowel combinations strategically • How to strengthen closure without adding tension If singing often feels air-heavy, unstable, or more effortful than it should, this episode will help you identify what’s really happening — and give you practical tools to build stronger, more efficient coordination. 🚨Grab Your FREE 5-Minute Vocal Warm-Up + Bonus Belt Exercise More Links for you... 🌟Vocal Pro Collective 🎥 Watch this episode on YouTube Hosted on Acast.
