Maryam has worked with bioinformatics to study Endometriosis and Sarah Syed is developing a method to prevent algae blooms. Maryam dives into the creation of her non-profit, and Sarah talks about the outreach she has done with students in her community.

    Youthomatic Ep 1. Cultural Shifts: Societies Long Ago to Social Norms Today

    In this episode, Shaun Karakkattu discusses senior projects with Rashi Magiyawala who conducted research about taking the fair out of lovely: colorism in South Asian beauty, and Maxfield Hohn who conducted research about reviving anthropology in the modern museum.  Maxfield talked about the development of the TA program at BASIS Mesa, and Rashi discussed the start of her fashion club. Rashi will be attending ASU in the fall, and Maxfield will be attending USC.

    Youthomatic Bonus Episode 5: New York Times Podcast Contest with the Seniors from BASIS Mesa

    In this bonus episode for the New York Times podcast contest, Shaun Karakkattu introduced Brecker Ferguson’s project about evaluating cross-cultural valuations of lions, Sara Kandel’s project about putting a period on South Asian menstrual stigma, Rashi Magiyawala’s project about taking the fair out of lovely: colorism in South Asian beauty, and Maxfield Hohn’s project about reviving anthropology in the modern museum. Thank you to all the guests who helped with the first season of Youthomatic, and a new season will be out in the summer of 2020.

    In this episode, Shaun Karakkattu discusses with Erin Clancy and Paige Lottman about their experiences at a large traditional high school and finding their place among the crowds. Erin talked about her experiences working with researchers and researching at ASU, TGen, and KEYS at the University of Arizona.     In this episode, Shaun Karakkattu discussed with Anissa Ferris, a senior at BASIS Mesa, and Swapnika Raola, a senior at BASIS Ahwatukee about their experiences with the KEYS program at the University of Arizona, the Coca-Cola Scholars program, and a senior project focused on women in STEM at Arizona State University.

    Youthomatic Ep 1: Adventures in South Africa & Nepal

    In this episode, Shaun Karakkattu discusses with Brecker Ferguson and Sara Kandel about their Senior Projects. Sara and Brecker talked about their passion and what pushed them to go internationally to research. Brecker learned and research with lions and other animals in Northern South Africa, and Sara worked with and researched about the stigma around women's menstruation in South Asian culture namely in Nepal.
