The History Chicks : A Women's History Podcast

It’s like listening to a really good story. Beckett and Susan do so much research on their topics that each episode feels immersive in the time of the subject. Even with so much information, the podcast never gets dull. I love the end where they talk about their sources. I’ve found so many good shows, documentaries, and books through them. Also, their episode catalog is HUGE and there’s so many stories to keep you entertained.

I’ve been looking for a good history pod and I found it! Interesting topics, succinct story telling, awesome vocabulary use and good banter between hosts. I’ll be taking my time enjoying all that you’ve shared!

I’ve been a devoted listener of The History Chicks for years and this podcast has genuinely changed the way I see myself as a woman. The hosts don’t just tell you about remarkable women — they hand you a mirror. I wrote to them years ago to tell them how much their work meant to me, and when they wrote back I honestly felt like I’d received a letter from someone famous. That’s the kind of show this is. Their recent episode on Laura Ingalls Wilder absolutely floored me. I grew up loving the Little House books and thought I knew her story. I did not. By the end I was genuinely moved in a way I wasn’t expecting — and that happens to me regularly with this show. So many of the women they feature had their most beautiful chapter arrive after hardship, after loss, after being underestimated. Hearing those stories over and over again feels like a reminder of what we’re all capable of. If you want to understand where we come from and feel inspired by it, start here. Usually a very fair and well researched podcast without getting too involved in modern politics. We have to be careful looking at the past with our modern eyes. Also the Cherokee nation mentioned in Wilma Mankiller episode had slaves and practiced violence before the white man showed up. The idea that American Indians were always peaceful and were solely corrupted by the white man is simply not true. I must add as of 4/21/26 you simply cannot speak for Indians and decide with a sweeping comment how they wish to be referred to. My oneida Indian father in law prefers the term Indian and he loves the redskins and was sad when his literal likeness was wiped away when white people decided it was time for him to feel offended by it.
