#55 The Women’s Sport Pay Gap | Jess Brady on Money & Financial Security

Professional athlete doesn't always mean financial security. In this episode of 4TG, Kylie Lynch sits down with Jess Brady, money educator, founder of The Greenhouse and host of Financially Fierce, to talk about the financial reality facing women in Australian sport. From the A-League Women and AFLW to NRLW, Jess breaks down the gap between the demands placed on elite female athletes and what they're actually paid. They also unpack why many athletes need second or third jobs, how financial stress can affect performance, and why money education needs to become part of an athlete's development. Jess also challenges some common beliefs about women and money, sharing her own financial mistakes and the lessons she learned along the way. In this conversation, you'll hear about: • The current pay gap across major women's sports • Why professional athletes can still experience financial insecurity • The myth that women are bad with money • How to build better financial habits without living with a scarcity mindset • Jess's Bamboo, Fruit Tree and Oak Tree approach to financial goals • Building wealth during a short sporting career • Investing, cash flow and superannuation • Separating self-worth from net worth • Preparing financially for life after sport The sporting career might only last a few years. The financial decisions made during that time can shape much more of your life. 🎙️ Listen to the full conversation with Jess Brady on the 4TG Podcast. 💬 Do you think financial education should be part of every professional athlete's development? #54 4TG Turns One | 5 Lessons From a Year of Empowering Women in Sport

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM ONE YEAR OF LISTENING TO THE WOMEN CHANGING SPORT? In this special anniversary episode of the 4TG Podcast, Kylie Lynch celebrates one year of conversations, stories, and lessons from the athletes, leaders, and advocates working to create a better future for women and girls in sport. 4TG was built on a simple belief: girls and women deserve to be seen, supported, and given the opportunity to stay in sport. With girls dropping out of sport at twice the rate of boys by their teenage years, keeping girls in the game isn't just about sport. It's about protecting access to leadership, confidence, resilience, teamwork, friendships, and lifelong skills. To celebrate one year of 4TG, Kylie reflects on five powerful lessons that have emerged across the podcast. From understanding that you are more than your performance, to building confidence through mindset, creating sports systems designed for female athletes, and making sure every girl feels like she belongs, this episode looks at what needs to change to keep girls in sport. But awareness isn't enough. The final lesson is about action. Creating real equality requires people willing to speak up, challenge outdated systems, and become "upstanders" when they see inequality. Kylie also shares what's next for 4TG, including the launch of a new Mindset & Confidence Course for female athletes and the vision to bring the 4TG mission into schools and sporting clubs across Australia. This episode is a celebration of how far 4TG has come, but it's also a reminder of how much work is still ahead. Because the future of women's sport depends on what we choose to do today. IN THIS EPISODE ✔ Why girls are leaving sport at twice the rate of boys ✔ Why athletes need to separate their identity from performance ✔ Why confidence is a skill that can be developed ✔ Why women need sports systems designed around female athletes ✔ How belonging and representation help girls stay in sport ✔ Why visibility alone isn't enough to create equality ✔ The role of "upstanders" in creating change ✔ The importance of mindset, resilience, leadership, and teamwork ✔ The new 4TG Mindset & Confidence Course ✔ The next chapter of the 4TG mission Join the 4TG Pressure Proof Online Mindset Course Waitlist and receive the early bird discount 🔥 Built from the lessons of elite athletes. #53 Sold Out & Locked Out | The AFLW Stadium Crisis (Australia v Ireland)

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WOMEN'S FOOTY OUTGROWS THE STADIUMS IT'S GIVEN? In this episode of the 4TG Podcast, Kylie Lynch takes a closer look at the historic AFLW Australia vs Ireland clash and asks a bigger question about the future of women's sport: Why are we still treating major women's football matches like they belong in small venues? The Australia vs Ireland match sold out almost immediately, but Kylie argues that a sell-out shouldn't be seen as the end of the story. It should be a signal that women's football is ready for bigger stages, bigger audiences, and bigger investment. This episode explores the growing demand for AFLW, the impact of Irish athletes on the competition, and the incredible cultural exchange happening between Gaelic football in Ireland and Australian Rules football in Australia. With 46 active Irish players in the AFLW, the relationship between the two sporting cultures is becoming impossible to ignore. Kylie also looks at the possibility of Ireland becoming the AFLW's 20th team and why the league needs to address its stadium and venue strategy before taking the next step internationally. This is a conversation about visibility, commercial potential, fan demand, and the future of women's football. Because when the stadium sells out in minutes, maybe the problem isn't that women's sport lacks an audience. Maybe we've simply been giving it stages that are too small. IN THIS EPISODE ✔ Why the Australia vs Ireland AFLW match is a historic milestone ✔ The problem with celebrating sell-outs at small venues ✔ Why AFLW needs bigger stadiums to match fan demand ✔ The growing influence of Irish athletes in Australian women's football ✔ Why Gaelic football is creating a pathway into professional AFLW ✔ The possibility of an Irish AFLW team becoming the 20th license ✔ Why venue infrastructure must improve before international expansion ✔ How fans can use their voices to demand bigger stages for women's sport ABOUT THE 4TG PODCAST 4TG (For The Girls) is a podcast dedicated to the stories, challenges, and people shaping the future of women's sport. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A CAREER IN A SPORT THAT'S STILL EVOLVING? In this episode of the 4TG Podcast, Kylie Lynch sits down with Richmond AFLW defender Bec Miller to talk about the journey of building a career in women's football while helping shape its future. Bec's path into AFL wasn't conventional. Growing up in Wagga Wagga, she played multiple sports before discovering Australian Rules football as an adult. She joined Richmond ahead of the club's inaugural AFLW season and has experienced firsthand how quickly the women's game has grown. But this conversation goes well beyond football. Bec reflects on the early years of AFLW, when players balanced full-time jobs with late-night training, and compares that to today's increasingly professional environment. She shares why investing in coaches, facilities, and high-performance staff is just as important as paying athletes, and why sustainable careers depend on building the entire ecosystem around women's sport. We also explore Bec's passion for preserving women's sporting history through She Shapes History, where she helps uncover the stories of remarkable female athletes whose achievements have too often been forgotten. Because when we know our history, we value the present even more. Whether you're an athlete, coach, parent, or someone passionate about the future of women's sport, this episode is a reminder that progress doesn't happen by accident.
