In this week’s episode I sit down with my friend and the co-producer of According To B Tshegetso! We talk about the reality of following a dream and aspiring to live in our purpose. Both Tshegetso and I share our experiences of being creators, what taking a chance on ourselves has looked like, the role that God has played in continuing to prepare us for more, some mistakes we have made along the way, whether we feel like we are living in our purpose or not and what has kept us going even in the midst of uncertainty.

Melissa opens up about her experiences growing up as dark skinned black girl and how that shaped her ideas about beauty. Her experiences with colourism and xenophobia. Her journey in the Miss South Africa pageant, the significance of it to her and what she hopes to achieve should she be crowned.

Melissa is a film and television producer. Miss South Africa 2020 top 5 finalist and Miss South Africa 2023 top 5 finalist. Melissa started her career as an intern on The Voice Nigeria and went on to work on the SABC 2 music show Stand Up SA. She is currently producing Mzansi Magics Lenyalo Ha Se Papapdi.

Melissa hopes to use the Miss South Africa platform to eradicate the prejudice and injustice people face through xenophobia and highlight the warmth and love that South Africans have to give.

Her business Sellé Jewellery sells different unique jewellery pieces including those that can cater to individuals who want the piercing look but don’t want to go through the pain of it.
