Updates from an American SLP in Australia

Back at the start of 2025 I had a chat with Abby, an American SLP living and working on Bribie Island in Queensland, Australia. In early December, Abby and I caught up again, and I also met her partner Monique. They’ve had a big year in their business, and we wanted to give you all an update. Not only have they officially hired their first employee (also an American SLP) but they have released a resource to help other SLPs Overseas who are thinking of making the move abroad, specifically to Australia. In this episode you’ll hear about how undertaking the process of hiring an international SLP inspired the creation of this resource. Grab your passport, pack your bags and get ready to come on an audio adventure as we get an update on what life is like as an American SLP who has hired another American SLP in Australia 🇦🇺. 👍 Make sure you like, subscribe and follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Instagram so you can hear episodes as soon as they land (yes, that's an airplane pun). SLPs Overseas is an independently produced podcast. I record, edit and publish episodes while working full-time as an SLP (and travelling, of course!) If you enjoy listening to my podcast and want to buy me a coffee to show your support, I would greatly appreciate it. ☕️https://buymeacoffee.com/slpsoverseas 🔗 Speech Supply Co Website 🔗 Speech Supply Co Instagram Enjoy the episode!

A South African SLP in Australia (Adelaide)

In January 2025 I had a chat with Caryn, a South African SLP living and working in Adelaide, South Australia. You may know that Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia, the state that is home to some of the best wine in the world. But did you also know that, according to the 2021 census, over a quarter of the population living in Adelaide was born overseas? Grab your passport, pack your bags and get ready to come on an audio adventure to discover what life is like as a South African SLP in Australia 🇦🇺. For listeners outside of Australia, there are some local terminologies in the episode that you might not be familiar with. NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme; a type of government funding for speech pathology services. And COMPASS is the Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology; a tool used to assess the clinical competency of speech pathology students in Australia to ensure they have gained experience across clinical populations prior to graduation. 👍 Make sure you like, subscribe and follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Instagram so you can hear episodes as soon as they land (yes, that's an airplane pun).
