Dan does a great job of highlighting important global and local events from a South African perspective and interpreting the significance of these to his listeners.
I’ve never been particularly interested in following the news, firstly because it can be depressing, but also because there’s so much nonsense out there and it’s sometimes hard to tell which stories can be trusted. Until I started listening to an earlier iteration of this podcast, “The issue with Dan Corder”, my only regular source of news (that I could stomach) was satirical cartoons and American comedic shows, like The Daily Show or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which I still love watching - because damn, they’re hilarious, but I was missing the local stories and commentary. I was feeling convicted by the fact that I had more knowledge of American politics than our own. I’m so glad I stumbled across Dan on YouTube all those months ago after the 2024 elections when I was trying to figure out (with the rest of the country) what the heck this new GNU thing was and how it was going to work.
Through his commentary, Dan provides vital context with well researched facts that finally makes the news understandable, with just enough humour to keep this fantasy-escapism nerd engaged and informed.
