In recent years the number of people going for a plant-based diet has increased rapidly. Whether it is for health reasons, environment, or animal welfare, there has been a global shift away from meat. Established in April 2018, Jakarta Vegan Guide aims to help vegans and other conscious people navigate Jakarta. We created "Woke Room" for everyone to come and share inspiring stories about their conscious lifestyle and also a fun place to get insight into the world of veganism.

    Nino Fernandez is an actor, influencer, movie producer, and the owner of a coffee shop known as di.bawahtangga. Born of an Indonesian father and a German mother, Nino spent his early teens in Europe to continue his studies. After Nino's graduation, He returned to Indonesia to pursue his career in the entertainment industry.  Nino's began to be known to the public when he became VJ MTV, a hit TV channel among the younger viewers back in the 90s to early 2000s. After that, he later cast in several movies, including the LGBT themed movie coklat-stroberi, where he plays the main character, which landed him as one of the most breakthrough actors in Indonesia.  In this fifth episode of Woke Room, we caught up with Nino over a zoom call and talked about Nino's journey of finding the best diet that works for him. From being a pescetarian, vegetarian, and then vegan, he told us that one of the hardest parts of being vegan is that he had to give up cheese, which is the food that he grows up with. Singaporean native Muhammad Ryza is Co-owner and baker at Sayang Online and a volunteer and animal rights advocate at Animal Allies Singapore. Ryza, along with his mother Nora or known as @javanese_vegan on Instagram, is the founder of @theveganmumnson, a dedicated Instagram account where they share their home-cooked meals recipes to let people know that eating vegan is easy.     Marc Anthony Klok is a Dutch professional football player who plays as a defensive midfielder for Indonesian Liga 1 club Persija Jakarta. He began his career at Utrecht. In 2013, he signed with Scottish Premiership club Ross County. After one season in Scotland, Klok joined Cherno More Varna, where he won one Bulgarian Cup and one Bulgarian Supercup. After leaving Cherno More at the end of the 2015–16 season, he joined Oldham Athletic. In April 2017, he moved to Indonesia from Scotland to join and play for the Indonesia club PSM Makassar of the Liga 1. Now she has an Instagram page dedicated to sharing the best plant-based foods Jakarta has to offer and proceeds to talk about her no-shampoo journey, cruelty-free beauty, and encourages her followers to question societal standards.
