    Teenage WHAT at Camp Miasma?

Rise and shine, campers, for an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs! Andrew and Peyton review ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’, a new film from Jane Schoenbrun that hit them like a spear through the chest. Hannah Einbinder (‘Hacks’) stars as Kris, a queer horror director tasked with rebooting a classic slasher franchise. Kris meets Billy (Gillian Anderson, ‘The X-Files’), the star of the original Camp Miasma film, leading her on a fantastical journey of sexual discovery that blurs the line between reality and the film franchise she fell in love with. We discuss the film’s genre-bending narrative, the hand-crafted feel of the production design, and the personal story that ‘We’re All Going to the World’s Fair’, ‘I Saw the TV Glow’, and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ tell about Jane Schoenbrun's gender identity and sexuality. In movie news, Marvel has chosen their new ‘X-Men’, and Criterion will release Paul Thomas Anderson’s Cameron Winter concert film in theaters this November. Out now, a group of kids find themselves trapped in a children’s show with an orange unicorn in ‘Buddy’ from Casper Kelly (‘Too Many Cooks’). Also, Macon Blair (‘The Toxic Avenger’) directs ‘Idiots’, a black comedy road movie starring Dave Franco, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Mason Thames. Ghost World (2001) feat. an Interview with Tim Anderson

We sat down for an in-depth interview with veteran film curator Tim Anderson! Tim shared insight into what goes into programming a film festival, behind-the-scenes conversations surrounding anniversary screenings, and the X-rated, 160-minute movie from 1975 he’ll always dream of showing. Tim is the Programming Manager for the Academy Award–qualifying Florida Film Festival and Maitland arthouse staple, Enzian Theater. We talked about his odyssey from growing up in Central Florida to working on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno', producing independent films, and working as a film journalist (including running the podcasts for Bloody Disgusting), before returning to Florida to become a full-time programmer. Enzian Theater is a nonprofit cinema and café that spotlights independent, international, and queer cinema, cult classics, and so much more. It hosts several regular community events in the Orlando area, including the annual Florida Film Festival, which just opened submissions for its 2027 festival. It is also where Andrew and Peyton first met, at a late-night, full-moon screening of 'Ginger Snaps' (2000). 🐺 𓃦 🌕 After 30 days of exclusively showing Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' (2026), Enzian has returned to its regularly scheduled programming, beginning with a 4K restoration of Alex Cox’s 'Repo Man' (1984) on August 15. Next, Enzian will present 'Ghost World' (2001) as a 35mm Cult Classic tomorrow night, August 25. We asked Tim why he chose the offbeat comedy, based on Daniel Clowes’ underground graphic novel, as his 2026 birthday movie. Directed by Terry Zwigoff ('Crumb', 'Bad Santa'), 'Ghost World' stars Thora Birch ('American Beauty'), Steve Buscemi, and a young Scarlett Johansson. Tickets are still available at https://enzian.org/film/ghost-world. Listen to this new episode of Cinephomaniacs now on any podcast platform. Her Private Hell feat. Zach Smith

Zach Smith (@ZachOnArthouse on Substack and TikTok) joins Andrew and Peyton to discuss the films of Nicolas Winding Refn. They dig into everything from 'Drive' and 'Only God Forgives' to 'The Neon Demon' and 'Too Old to Die Young' before tackling NWR's newest film, now playing in theaters: 'Her Private Hell'. Sophie Thatcher ('Yellowjackets') and Havana Rose Liu ('Bottoms') star as actresses who cross paths with a diamond-covered killer known as the Leather Man in 'Her Private Hell'. Meanwhile, Charles Melton ('Riverdale') plays an American GI cutting his way through the Yakuza to save his daughter from the same fate. It's everything you've come to expect from Refn: long pauses, neon lights, and a kickass soundtrack. Zach shares his enthusiasm as a dedicated Refn fan and discusses his recent interview with 'Her Private Hell' editor Matthew Newman. The wide-ranging discussion also includes trailer reactions to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Ebenezer’, TIFF 2026 programming, and early screenings of ‘Motor City’. Plus: we can’t wait to revisit 'Drive' at Enzian next month! https://enzian.org/film/drive    Zach's Substack: https://zachonarthouse.substack.com/ Zach's TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zachonarthouse Zach’s Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/zsmith33/  'Mat Newman on Finding the Ending of Her Private Hell and His Collaboration with Nicolas Winding Refn' (interview by Zach): https://zachonarthouse.substack.com/p/mat-newman-on-finding-the-ending 'Die, Mommie, Die!': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9qpbbvffQI More of Cinephomaniacs: https://linktr.ee/cinephomaniacs More of Peyton: https://letterboxd.com/dualip/ More of Andrew: https://andrewlikesmovies.substack.com/
