    107. Should The Epley Maneuver Be Used to Treat BPPV Vertigo?

I see people using the Epley Maneuver wrong all the time—and it drives me up the wall. We clearly need to talk about this. A lot of people are trying to treat their positional vertigo from vestibular migraine—or any dizziness—at home with the Epley Maneuver because that’s what the internet says to do. But let me tell you—it is not the thing to do.  Even though the Epley Maneuver feels like magic, it’s physics and gravity—and there are times you do and don’t want to use it. Tune in to discover differences between BPPV and vestibular migraine, the one time the Epley Maneuver should be used with BPPV, and mistakes made with the Epley Maneuver. In this episode, we’ll dig into: What BPPV stands for How BPPV and vestibular migraine are similar What the Epley Maneuver is When to use the Epley Maneuver How the Epley Maneuver should be done If it’s worth it to do the Epley Maneuver at home The one type of dizziness the Epley Maneuver can treat Mistakes people make with the Epley Maneuver What to do to prevent BPPV If you do have the one type of BPPV this maneuver works on and you do the correct Epley Maneuver treatment for the correct side, it should be 80-90% successful. It should not take months for you to feel better—if you have the right diagnosis and the correct treatment. Press play to learn more about the Epley Maneuver, BPPV, and come ask me any lingering questions on Instagram! 2. 106. Is Botox an Effective Treatment for Vestibular Migraine?

    106. Is Botox an Effective Treatment for Vestibular Migraine?

People ask me all the time, “Does Botox work for vestibular migraine?”  Another common question people ask is, “Is it going to get rid of my dizziness?” That question is missing the point. When you’re treating vestibular migraine, you’re not treating the dizziness. Does Botox work for VM? Yes, but not because you’re treating the dizziness. In this episode, you’ll hear me synthesize a study that dove into the impact of Botox on vestibular migraine—how it works, who it works for, and some important things to know if you’d like to explore this treatment for yourself. In this episode, we’ll dig into: What is Botox for and not to be used for How Botox treats vestibular migraine Where the Botox injections happen for vestibular migraine If insurance covers Botox for vestibular migraine How many Botox treatments it takes to see any change Important note if you have EDS and VM and are interested in Botox If you think Botox is just freezing the muscles and therefore vestibular migraine goes away—no. As you heard in the episode, there are way deeper things going on.  Resources referenced in this episode are linked below, so you can review them on your own and share them with your doctor. 102. Should I Track My Vestibular Migraine Symptoms Forever?

Tracking your symptoms can be incredibly helpful in revealing patterns. When we talk about vestibular migraine, we ultimately want to figure out the patterning behind it for you. Even if it feels like it’s completely random and there’s absolutely no pattern, there’s almost always some sort of pattern. I help a lot of my patients figure out what their pattern is by them tracking their symptoms and sharing their log with me. In today’s episode, I’m sharing what that looks like so you have a roadmap to follow. In this episode, we’ll dig into: How to track your vestibular disorder symptoms Examples of common vestibular migraine symptoms Which symptoms you want to track for your vestibular disorder What your neurologist and other providers will want to see What symptoms to track short term vs long term The benefit of having a VM toolkit for attacks What to do to begin your vestibular healing journey Part of living with and managing a vestibular disorder is about understanding your unique situation. Which, yes, includes symptom tracking for the short and long term. It’s not possible to ignore your way or think your way out of a vestibular disorder. It’s about awareness, intentional actions, and curating the most supportive tools and providers for you. 101. Pros & Cons of Online Chronic Illness Support Groups

Being in vestibular disorder support groups can be really helpful—at first. But many of them share posts that are anxiety-provoking and over time, these spaces can leave you feeling drained vs empowered. This isn’t the case for every single support group out there. But if this is your experience, I want you to know you’re not alone in that. This episode is all about vestibular disorder support groups and chronic illness support groups in general. In this episode, we’ll dig into: Why people join support groups What the support group experience is often like The pros and cons of being in support groups Why these spaces for healing sometimes turn into negative echo chambers How to vet advice shared in these online communities What makes a support space actually supportive Questions to ask yourself to evaluate groups you’re currently in I share so much information for free (here on the podcast, on the blog, etc.) because I want you to be aware. Aware of what can help with your vestibular disorder, what has been scientifically proven, and what your options truly are. We do lots of good things in VGF to set you up for healing and success—wins of the week, challenges, questions with engagement and context. And everything is grounded in nervous system safety with evidence-based, science-backed tools that help you with your vestibular disorder. We do not do toxic positivity in VGF, but we do do regulated realism. Because your nervous system is always listening. The stories you consume become your inner narrative. So be careful about the content you consume and choose spaces that speak to your healing. They’re out there—I promise! Links/Resources Mentioned: Vestibular Group Fit (code GROUNDED at checkout!) 100. How You Can Help Someone Who Has a Vestibular Disorder

I’m constantly responding to questions in my Ask Me Anything (AMA) box on Instagram about this one topic—from 2 very different perspectives. Helping someone with a vestibular disorder. There’s the person experiencing the symptoms of the vestibular disorder. And then there’s the person who cares about the person with the vestibular disorder. This podcast is dedicated to both of you. This isn’t about getting someone to understand how frustrated and dizzy you feel. Or about making anyone feel bad for the way their brain and body just are. It’s about getting people to understand how they can help when you are feeling symptomatic. In this episode, we’ll dig into: What you can do to support someone with a vestibular disorder What people with vestibular disorders wish you knew A note on asking for help Common vestibular disorders What is really not helpful to someone with a vestibular disorder How hypervigilance plays into vestibular disorders What it means that a vestibular disorder is a spectrum disorder A big takeaway here is the unpredictability of a vestibular disorder. And the fact that every day is going to look very different. I promise you this does get better—with the right tools. It’s not overnight, but with the right tools, consistency, trial and error, and some frustration it does get better. And there are so many things you can do to help someone who’s struggling with a vestibular disorder—no matter if it’s BPPV, PPPD, vestibular migraine, or Ménière's disease.
