Scott's new show - Did I Hear That Right?

I have something brand new for you today. I have started a new storytelling podcast! The new show is called Did I Hear That Right? And I’m co-hosting it with my friend Glenn. For this new podcast, each episode we’re gonna have a guest come on and tell the story of something they’ve done, that most other people have never done. And these stories are all crazy, and they’re fun to listen to. No traumatic stories like animal attacks, nothing like that. And these are shorter episodes too – usually around 20 minutes or so. I’m doing this with my friend Glenn Hebert. He has a LONG history of podcasting. He started the Horse Radio Network, and has hosted the daily morning show called Horses in the Morning – for more than 4000 episodes. I’ve known Glenn for a long time and I know we’re gonna have fun with this show. And I want you to know, the new podcast will have no effect on What Was That Like. That’s my main show, and it will continue with those stories of real people in unreal situations, just like it has since it started 8 years ago. And right now, I’m gonna play you the first episode of Did I Hear That Right? So you can get a feel for what it’s like. Then I’ll be back here to wrap it up after. Learn more about your ad choices. Nicole Yade: Why Leaving an Abusive Relationship Is the Most Dangerous Time

What if the most dangerous moment in an abusive relationship isn't staying, it's trying to leave?   As Australia continues to grapple with the national crisis of domestic violence and violence against women, this week on You're Gonna Want To Hear This, Marie Claire Australia Editor Georgie McCourt speaks with Nicole Yade, CEO of the Women and Girls Emergency Centre, whose own experience surviving family violence and coercive control has shaped decades of frontline advocacy for women and children escaping abuse.  Before Nicole dedicated her life to helping others find safety, she was a child growing up in a home ruled by fear. As an adult, despite promising herself she'd never repeat the cycle, she found herself in an abusive relationship of her own. At 24, she fled with her five-month-old baby, leaving behind violence and stepping into homelessness because staying was no longer safe.  In this deeply personal conversation, Nicole shares why leaving an abusive relationship is far more complicated than people often believe. She unpacks domestic violence nd the invisible barriers that keep women trapped, while drawing on decades of experience supporting victim-survivors on the frontline.  This is a conversation about survival, resilience and rebuilding a life after trauma. Nicole also explains why domestic violence services are at breaking point and what needs to change to better protect women and children.   If you or anyone else you know is experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, support is available. The cellist who survived Auschwitz-Birkenau

In 1943, the cellist, Anita Lasker-Wallfisch was sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. She expected to be killed in the gas chambers but survived because she was recruited to play in an orchestra set up by the women prisoners. In 2015, Anita Lasker-Wallfisch told Simon Watts about her experience and the power of music in the darkest moments in history. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by and curious about the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from how the Excel spreadsheet was developed, the creation of cartoon rabbit Miffy and how the sound barrier was broken. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: the moment Reagan and Gorbachev met in Geneva, Haitian singer Emerante de Pradines’ life and Omar Sharif’s legendary movie entrance in Lawrence of Arabia. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, like the invention of a stent which has saved lives around the world; the birth of the G7; and the meeting of Maldives’ ministers underwater. We cover everything from World War Two and Cold War stories to Black History Month and our journeys into space. (Picture: Holocaust survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch. Israel Dagg Comes Clean on Addiction, Depression & Getting Sober After Rock Bottom

Israel Dagg had everything he'd ever chased - a Rugby World Cup, a young family, the life a kid from a Hawke's Bay state house could only dream of. Then he retired, and the question underneath it all hit at once: “if I'm not an All Black, who am I?” In one of the most open conversations we've had on the show, Israel comes clean on the five years that followed - the addiction, the depression, and the spiral he kept hidden while the world saw a highlight reel. After his mum passed away he hit rock bottom: he left his family, moved to Auckland, and spent a Father's Day alone in an apartment wondering how it got so bad. He's honest about what it cost the people who loved him, and clear that no one could have pulled him out but himself. This is the story of how he did it - how ownership became the first step back, why nearly three years sober is the best decision he's ever made, and how he came to see that the happiness he'd been chasing had been in front of him the whole time.
