What does a Dexa scan tells us and should we get one? With Brendan Barry
Our body composition matters when it comes to our health. Understanding how much of us is lean active tissue, knowing what our bone density is, and what proportion of our fat sits under the skin (subcutaneous) versus between our organs (the more harmful visceral) is valuable information to track over time.
Host Amelia Phillips and exercise physiologist Brendan Barry discuss the technology of DEXA scans and how they can be a helpful tool in tracking, and motivating us to stay healthy. They discuss what the test measures, the cost, the ideal percentages our body composition should sit at, and what age we should start having bone density tests.

Key measurements to track on Dexa:
Body Fat % (20-33%), Lean muscle mass (over 40kg), Bone Density, ALHI or Appendicular Lean Mass to Height Ratio (ALM/Height2) should be at 5.5 for women or higher.
About the guest:
Brendan Barry, an accredited clinical exercise physiologist at MeasureUp, a health testing clinic in Sydney CBD, which includes both in clinic and mobile DEXA scans. He has been the Head Coach and Owner of BBPT, and has worked with the Royal Australian Navy.
