THE PURE PROPERTY PODCAST: The pragmatic approach to property investing

THE PURE PROPERTY PODCAST: The pragmatic approach to property investing

Some property investors like to go in with an aggressive acquisition strategy, while for others, patience is a virtue.

On this episode, co-hosts Paul Glossop and Phil Tarrant take a deep dive into what pragmatic property investing looks like for investors who like time to measure their decisions and gravitate to a slow and steady approach.

To illustrate the strategy, the duo delve into a case study of a couple who have amassed an impressive portfolio over years of investing. Their story is a testament to the fact that successful property investment doesn’t always require hyper-aggressive activity. Instead, it often involves making consistent, well-considered choices over time, adapting to life’s changes, and planning for contingencies.

Holiday home or rental property? Understanding the tax difference

Holiday home or rental property? Understanding the tax difference

Deciding how to use a dwelling over the new year period and beyond may have tax implications down the road.

In this episode of The Smart Property Investment Show, host Grace Ormsby speaks with Australian Taxation Office assistant commissioner Robert Thomson to shed some light on the tax obligations that property owners need to know about to ensure their investment strategy is sound.

The holidays are a time to relax and unwind, but for property investors, figuring out how to use that time productively may lead some to consider leveraging their assets on the short-term market. According to Mr Thomson, investors should ensure they understand the difference between a holiday home and a rental property from a tax perspective when calculating the benefit of making that move.

The duo also discuss how the government agency is using data matching to ensure that investors – and all Australians – are getting their returns right, and share helpful resources, such as the ATO’s investor toolkit, to help out at tax time.

Property Finance Uncut: Unwrapping the RBA’s holiday outlook

The RBA has handed down its final decision for 2023 – and it’s already setting the scene for 2024 market dynamics.
In this episode of Property Finance Uncut, Smart Property Investment’s Phil Tarrant and Finni Mortgages’ chief executive Paul Glossop predict that Australia is either at the top – or very near to the top – of the rate hiking cycle.
Comparing the current situation in Australia to the circumstances being seen over in the US, Paul and Phil note the leading indicators that could predict how the RBA acts over the coming 12 months, and offer some insight into how savvy investors can take advantage of a different set of conditions as we come into 2024.

How to kickstart your investment journey with minimal savings

Many Australians believe that a hefty savings account is a prerequisite for property investment, but that’s not necessarily true.

In this episode of The Smart Property Investment Show, Grace Ormsby talks to Eva Loisance of Finni Mortgages about the ways to reduce the upfront costs of investing, helping first-time buyers or those looking to grow a portfolio make their property purchase sooner.

Eva reveals the key strategies for cutting down on the cash-in-hand needed to buy property in Australia, while discussing the pros and cons of harnessing each tactic.

Is a buyer’s agent right for you?

Is a buyer’s agent right for you?

One of the biggest decisions new property investors have to make is whether to DIY their portfolio or work with a buyer’s agent.

In this episode of The Smart Property Investment Show, host Phil Tarrant and InvestorKit’s Arjun Paliwal unpack the hard data on using a buyer’s agent.

They explore the pros and cons of full-service buyer’s agents versus local specialists, and find out whether investors who used a buyer’s agent would do so again.

The pair also reveal how to access off-market properties, whether it pays to buy in your backyard, and what slower unit price growth means for Aussie investors.

Great insights

Been listening for years. Really helpful tips, interesting guests and great hosts.

Nowhere near good as it used to be

Almost every single episode is now selling something. It has started going in circle and quite repetitive where most episodes are trying to convince the listeners that they need a buyers agent, that they and need a mortgage broker, that they shouldn’t go to the banks directly, that they simply can not do this on their own etc. It is really now more like a catalogue of businesses . Don’t mind occasional adds but same people telling the same story about their business is actually for me a big turn off. On odd occasions when ordinary people are invited it is nowhere near as inspiring as it was years ago. Imagine a magazine you pay for and all you get are adds. They are not adding value.

Some great content, minus the advertising / boys club

I have been a listener for 5 years now after years of property investing and getting the magazine.
The podcast is ideal for people gearing towards or buying an investment property. There is some excellent content and it has been a great source of inspiration for me.
As a female I find it hard sometimes to filter through the boys club rhetoric. There is a LOT of self promotion from the lads.
Ladies out there looking for gender neutral advice, here are some better podcasts
- the property trio
- the property couch
- firebug australia
This podcast is great - however take any “advice” as an avenue for promoting SPI friends’ businesses.
