Death, taxes and the celebrity beauty brand

Death, taxes and the celebrity beauty brand

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and celebrities starting their own beauty brands.
What started as a few fragrances soon turned into a tsunami of celeb-backed beauty brands attacking us from every corner of Mecca, Sephora, and Priceline. But how did this happen and what brands are here for the long haul?
This week, Lexie recommends taking a look at @thisislibertyroad and @goodbyecroptop for some over 40’s fashion inspo.
Charlotte recommends ‘Ariana Madix is making a fortune from all this’ from the Cut.

May contain traces of Almond Mom

May contain traces of Almond Mom

On today's episode: body image, diet culture and the Almond Mum.
We dive into the concept of the Almond Mum, a new term that has emerged from Tiktok and inspired by Gigi and Bella Hadid’s mother Yolanda. The Almond Mom describes an old phenomenon: mothers projecting their unhealthy relationship with food, diet, exercise and body image onto their children, particularly their daughters.
This week, Lexie recommends 'The Medical Medium and the True Believer' in Vanity Fair as well as taking a look at Natalie Portman’s Dior dress at Cannes Film Festival (see our Insta) and Charlotte recommends Season 10 of Vanderpump Rules and the 'Scandoval' saga.

To all the boy bands we've loved before

Omg hiiii! Welcome to the first-ever episode of Smart Casual!
On today's episode: Boy bands! Lexie educates us on the boys who loved a bit of tartan: the Bay City Rollers and Charlotte tries her best to explain to her mother everything One Direction related, from why Zayn left the band and what fan fiction is (send help). We reflect on the ridicule boy bands face due to their teenage-girl-dominated fan base and delve into the important role boy bands play in teen girls' development.

Look forward to these each week

I love the dynamic between Charlotte and Lexie! The generational aspect adds a great point of difference to so many other popular culture podcasts and it’s nice to get pearls of advice from Lexie as someone who can look back to what it was like to be in your 20s with perspective.

Love it!!

Not usually a podcast listener but this was recommended to me by a friend. Charlotte and Lexie have a great mother-daughter dynamic, their banter reminds me of my relationship with my mum! I would highly recommend women of all ages to listen in. The 45 minutes go by so quickly. My mum is now a keen listener too!
