53 . Can a surrogate breastfeed surrobub?
❗️ YES❗️
There is no law prohibiting direct breast feeding with a surrogate and her surrobub.
How many surrogates do not produce any colostrum or milk?
How many do some colostrum and milk in the first week?
How many express milk for an extended amount of time?

52. (100th webinar!) Just do the next right thing - that’s all you can do (as Elsa would say 😉)
Nikita's SASS team are the first that we have supported from their introduction (January 2021) through to birth and now beyond for a year. Nikita birthed as a surrogate in Brisbane, QLD in October 2023 for a couple who were initially strangers and are now life long friends. They had a little girl, Isabelle, and her parents are Menaka and Simon who live on the Gold Coast.

About me:
My name is Anna McKie and I’m a part time high school senior Math teacher, married with two children in Adelaide South Australia and birthed as a surrogate in September 2020 for two Dads. I’ve also been an egg donor for 3 families, and 2 of those were for surrogacy teams. I have been closely involved in the Australian surrogacy community since 2016 and am responsible for the day-to-day administration of Surrogacy Australia's Support Service (SASS).
I’m passionate about the surrogacy community (the village) and that people should be able to navigate surrogacy in Australia without being on Facebook. That was part of our motivation for creating SASS, the monthly zoom catch ups and the free webinars. Within SASS we have a Mentor program, so you can be connected with a peer to meet in person and to ask questions without fear of online judgement.

51. Just keep swimming
Bell and her husband Keiron from regional South Australia became parents to their son Emmett in November 2023. Emmett was carried by surrogate Halina, who was previously a stranger, and was also created using donor eggs from one of Bell’s friends. It was a very long journey to parenthood with 2 stillbirths and 13 miscarriages as a result of Antiphospholipid Syndrome which is an immune condition where the blood is too thick. A very determined mother!

48. The value of the connection of surrogacy is what I get out of it
Rachel, from Melbourne, birthed as a surrogate in Adelaide September 2022 for a couple who were strangers and now life long friends. Matt and Aldo are now dads to their son Ari and have embraced Rachel as part of their modern family. Rachel's story is also unique as she has not had children of her own before surrogacy.
