Jowls, Jiggly Bits & THE Best Kylie Mole Impersonation

As Jimmy Eat World once sang, ‘It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.’  Well, we’re not little girls, we’re middle aged mummas, but we’re sure in the middle of it, as Fonz can attest to at the start of the show.  Also, Mez is fully feeling like the bank of mum and dad right now, along with being the designated driver - when did life get so hectic? Midlifer Moment: Wrinkles, Love Handles & Jiggly Bits is our first segment on the show this week.  They say your body changes at 40, and they were right.  But it’s a weird mix of accepting our bodies ain’t what they used to be, and screeching when you unexpectedly catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.  Either way, we’re having a chat and a laugh about it, and our jiggly jowls this week. If you grew up in Australia in the 80’s and 90’s, you would remember these two great shows, which battle it out in our Who Did it Better Battle this week: The Comedy Company vs Fast Forward/Full Frontal.  So many great characters and catchphrases, from Uncle Arthur to Milo Kerrigan - oh, and we gotta say, Fonz does THE BEST Kylie Mole impersonation 👌 It’s real, it’s nostalgic, it’s half an hour of nodding your head and having a laugh with two besties. We hope you enjoy the show!! ****🎟️HERE IS THE LINK TO OUR LIVE! https://tr.ee/Q2HFaViSGt **** Come meet us on April 19th at Trainscendence in Collingwood, Melbourne at 4pm 🎤 We are on Substack! Online Trolls & Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deep Dive

Mercury in Retrograde - is it a thing that really affects us?  Fonz says yes, Mez says…hmmm…well she’s too busy getting annoyed at her teen son who is costing her money and her marbles.  That’s how we start this week’s show. Our first segment, Don’t be a D!ck, is all about online etiquette.  Don’t be a troll - you’d think that would go without saying, wouldn’t you?  Don’t write in all caps, and if we make a spelling error, expect us to be like, ‘der’ - yes we suggest ‘der’ should make a comeback at the response of any trolling from now on. Then it’s on to our Deep Dive, where we get into the best vampire show that ever was, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  From the casting, to the characters, to the episodes that live rent free in our heads, some 25 years later.   We were shocked to hear about the unexpected passing of one of its main stars over the weekend, Nicholas Brendon, RIP.   We hope this episode, recorded a few weeks back, gives you some smiles as you come along the nostalgic Buffy journey with us. As always, thanks for listening or watching, and don’t forget to follow! ****🎟️HERE IS THE LINK TO OUR LIVE! https://tr.ee/Q2HFaViSGt**** Come meet us on April 19th at Trainscendence in Collingwood, Melbourne at 4pm 🎤 ❗We are on Substack! Welcome to a special bonus episode of The Midlifers, and this one is all about shaking things up in midlife with fun in fashion. 90s & 00’s Party Drinks + Our Hangover Food Fixes

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick things off with some classic midlife chat. Mez has been deep in renovation mode and declares there’s no time you look worse than when you’re renovating - covered in paint, dust and wearing the same old clothes for days. Mez also offers a competing theory: the true peak of unattractive moments might actually be the dreaded passport photo. We swap stories about their worst passport snaps and why those photos seem determined to capture the absolute worst version of your face (i.e resting bitch face). In our nostalgic “Do You Remember?” segment, we head straight back to the 90s & 2000’s party scene, reminiscing about the colourful drinks that fuelled so many questionable decisions back in the day. This week we’re also trying some flavoured vodkas from Bunsters, and let’s just say they were an absolute hit on the show. Whoever had the bright idea to make the Snickers inspired flavour called Chockers - we salute you 🫡 Then it’s time for Food, Glorious Food, where we tackle one of life’s great recovery questions: what is the best hangover food? From greasy classics to carb-heavy comfort food, we debate the ultimate cures after a big night out. Whether you were a bacon-and-eggs person, a Macca’s drive-through survivor or someone who swore by something a little more unusual, this segment will bring back plenty of memories. Expect laughs, nostalgia, and a few questionable beverage choices along the way. 🎧 Subscribe to The Midlifers Podcast and join us every week for nostalgic chats, midlife humour and pop culture throwbacks. 🍹Our ‘Do You Remember’ segment was brought to you by the awesome ‘Bunsters’, and their delicious flavoured vodkas. Self-Employment Rants & How Romance Novels Got Spicy

This week the Midlifers kick things off with a lively chat with some behind-the-scenes housekeeping - including exciting plans for a live show coming up in April. There’s also a bit of feedback from listeners after the recent Whitney vs Mariah Who Did it Better episode - we love hearing from our community, so keep the comments coming in! In Rant & Rave, we chat self-employment. Fonz and Mez dive into the reality of working for yourself - the highs, the frustrations, and the things people don’t always talk about. From the freedom and flexibility to the stress, uncertainty and no time off from the business, it’s a relatable look at the ups and downs of going it alone professionally. Then it’s time for Then & Now, where the Midlifers explore the world of romance novels and how they’ve evolved over the years. From the classic bodice-ripper covers and shy heroines of decades past to today’s far more open, modern and diverse stories, the discussion is packed with laughs, nostalgia and a few cheeky observations about just how much the genre - and its readers - have changed. If you enjoyed the episode, don’t forget to follow, rate and share the podcast with your fellow Midlifers. Your support helps more people discover the show - and keeps the nostalgia, laughter and deep dives into midlife rolling every week. Punky Brewster, JTT & Movie Soundtracks We Still Love

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick things off with a hilariously wholesome story about teenage rebellion - involving sneaking out of the house, lighting a candle, and… walking around the block because there was literally nowhere else to go. From one-on-one chats with teenagers to the shock of realising we’re now at the age where colonoscopies are part of the group chat, the opening conversation swings between innocence, ageing realities, and laughing at how wildly different life looks in midlife. Our first segment, Where Are They Now?, was inspired by our wonderful regular listener, Midlifer Tash 💖, and dives into beloved 80s and 90s child stars. We revisit Punky Brewster and chat about what became of Soleil Moon Frye, including unforgettable storylines that traumatised a generation. We also check in on heart-throb-turned-private-citizen Jonathan Taylor Thomas, from Home Improvement fame to voicing young Simba, and why his quiet life off-grid feels like a win. Then it’s time for Besties: Movie Soundtracks, as we celebrate the films that embedded songs into our DNA. From Romeo + Juliet to Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Forrest Gump and beyond, we talk about why soundtracks hit differently when you owned them on CD, cassette or VHS — and why modern movies just don’t burn themselves into memory the same way. Expect passionate opinions, accidental singing, key-change appreciation and plenty of nostalgic side quests. As always, it’s warm, funny, nostalgic and very Midlifers. ☕ Pop the kettle on and join The Midlifers. ❗We are on Substack! Bonus Ep: Elisabeth Easther, our Midlifer of the Month

This month’s bonus episode is a very special one as we welcome our Midlifer of the Month, Elisabeth Easther - writer, actor, voice artist and all-round creative force. From the jump, the conversation flows through creativity, midlife reinvention, and the reality of staying the course in creative industries where rejection is part of the deal. Elisabeth takes us behind the scenes of her novel Seed - from its beginnings as a story driven by lived experience, to becoming a play, and then returning to life as a book after years of persistence, rewrites, near-misses, and what she beautifully describes as a “very long birth.” We talk honestly about ambition, disappointment, hope, and why giving up is the one guaranteed way things won’t happen. Along the way, we cover everything from acting life (including Shortland Street, voiceover work and unexpected career doors opening and closing), to creativity requiring tension, the importance of friendship, embracing imperfection, environmental values, and bridging the Aussie–Kiwi divide. There are laughs, thoughtful moments, and plenty of classic Midlifers tangents - just the way we like it. 👉 If you’re new here, don’t forget to check out our back catalogue for our regular full-length episodes, where we deep dive into Gen X & Millennial nostalgia, midlife confessions, culture, and all the things no one warned us about. ✨ Follow, rate, and share the episode 📚 Bonus eps drop monthly — regular episodes weekly 📕Find Elisabeth's new novel, Seed, here https://www.penguin.com.au/books/seed-9781776951079 ❗We are on Substack! The Grass Isn't Greener & Battle of the 90's Divas

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick off with a wide-ranging midlife chat that covers everything from lollipop ladies and awkward etiquette, to scary movies you absolutely shouldn’t watch alone — especially if you still believe in bad energy following you home. There’s also a very honest reflection on how getting older changes what we can tolerate, what scares us, and how our perspective shifts once motherhood enters the picture. Our first segment is a Midlife Moment: The Grass Isn’t Always Greener, where we unpack the realities behind things we once wished for. From growing up with big boobs (or wishing you had them), to body confidence, relationships, marriage, independence and even content creation, we talk candidly about how every “other side” comes with its own set of challenges - and why gratitude often comes later than we’d like. Then it’s time for Who Did It Better: 90s Diva Edition, as we take on the near-impossible task of comparing two vocal powerhouses - Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. We dive into their careers, voices, iconic moments &surprising fun facts, debating powerhouse vocals versus whistle notes - and whether it’s even fair to pit two legends against each other. As always, expect laughs, nostalgia, honest reflection and a whole lot of midlife perspective. ☕ Grab a cuppa and join The Midlifers. ❗We are on Substack!
