Hot Pants, Heart-throbs & Iconic Music Videos: The 2000s Were Something Else

The 2000s gave us some seriously unforgettable music videos - and we're going back to revisit the best of them! This week on The Midlifers Podcast, we're talking about the music videos that defined the 2000s in our Besties segment, from Britney Spears' iconic red leather jumpsuit in Oops!... I Did It Again to Beyoncé's legendary Single Ladies, Kylie Minogue's tiny gold hot pants in Spinning Around and Justin Timberlake’s What Goes Around…Comes Around. And because it's The Midlifers, we're not just talking about the songs - we're talking about the fashion, the choreography, the ridiculous outfits, the memories and what it was actually like to experience these clips when they were released. Plus, it's time for another Where Are They Now? We find out what happened to Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, whose career has gone well beyond the band and into composing and writing music for kids shows.  And then there's Freddie Prinze Jr. - the 90s/2000s heartthrob from She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scooby-Doo. But what happened after Hollywood heartthrob status?  So dust off your CDs, get ready to dance like nobody's watching and prepare for some serious 2000s nostalgia. And yes... we will absolutely be discussing the Beyoncé dance. Listen, follow and tell us: What's the one 2000s music video you could watch over and over again? ❗Wanna be a part of the action with our goings on and subscribe to our weekly newsletter? The Craft vs Practical Magic: Which 90s Witchy Classic Did It Better?

It's time to grab your broomsticks, Midlifers! 🧙‍♀️ This week we're getting seriously witchy as we put two iconic 90s movies head-to-head in our latest Who Did It Better Battle: The Craft vs Practical Magic. We're taking a nostalgic trip back to the 90s to revisit the fashion, friendships, witches, magic and unforgettable moments that made both movies cult classics. From Neve Campbell, Fairuza Balk and the teenage coven of The Craft to Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman's sisterly magic in Practical Magic, we're asking the ultimate question: which movie did it better? And there's a twist… because the movie we would have chosen in our teens isn't necessarily the one we'd choose now! As two women firmly in midlife, our perspective on these movies has definitely changed. We're also talking burgers — from Macca's childhood memories and the legendary "two all-beef patties" jingle to sliders, pulled brisket, fancy $29 cheeseburgers and the question: how the hell are burgers so expensive now?! Plus, we chat about growing up with your best friend's family, older-brother crushes, Gen X makeup habits and the things that somehow make more sense when you're in your 40s and 50s. And with the highly anticipated Practical Magic sequel on the horizon, there's never been a better time to revisit the original and decide whether the magic still holds up. It's nostalgia, friendship, 90s movies, food and plenty of laughs - basically everything you'd expect from The Midlifers. Listen, follow and let us know: Team The Craft or Team Practical Magic? ⏱️CHAPTERS 00:00 Welcome to our show 00:52 Growing up with your bestie’s family 05:26 Changing your makeup style 08:29 Talking hamburgers 20:51 The Craft vs Practical Magic 40:09 Wrap up and see you next week ❗Wanna be a part of the action with our goings on and subscribe to our weekly newsletter? Then & Now: Whatever Happened to Family Get-Togethers?

Remember when family visits were basically a weekly event? In this episode of The Midlifers, we're taking a nostalgic trip back to the 80s and 90s and asking: whatever happened to extended family get-togethers? We reminisce about weekends spent visiting cousins, Sunday dinners at Grandma and Nonna's, random knocks on the door, sleeping over at grandparents' houses, making up dances for the adults, playing games with cousins and being sent off to the park with absolutely ZERO adult supervision. We also have a LOT to say about gift giving etiquette in our Don’t be a D!ck segment. Should you open presents in front of the person who gave them to you? Do you have to pretend to like a terrible gift? Is regifting acceptable? What about homemade presents? And what happens when someone gives their teacher lingerie?! 😳 Plus, we're talking grocery shopping, the chores we absolutely hate, gift registries, Macca's memories and the things that make us realise we're officially Midlifers. It's another big nostalgic trip down memory lane -  with plenty of laughs, questionable childhood supervision and a reminder that sometimes the "good old days" really were pretty bloody good. Listen, follow and let us know: What did you get away with when you were hanging out with your cousins? ❗Wanna be a part of the action with our goings on and subscribe to our weekly newsletter? Soap Opera Chaos, Group Chat Drama & Victor Newman 🔥 | The Midlifers Podcast

Remember when daytime TV was basically the most dramatic thing in our lives? Before streaming, before social media and before we had a million group chats pinging our phones, we had Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful! This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz take a nostalgic trip back to the daytime soap operas we watched growing up - complete with amnesia (so much amnesia!), secret identities, love triangles and evil villains we love to hate. We revisit some of the most unforgettable characters and storylines, including Stefano DiMera, Marlena Evans, Victor Newman, Cricket, Brooke, Ridge, Stephanie and the unforgettable Sally Spectra. We also uncover some of the absolutely bonkers plots that somehow made it onto daytime television - and yes, we do talk about THAT demonic possession! And before we dive into the soap opera chaos, we have a very midlife Rant or Rave about group chats. Are WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and endless family, school and sporting chats keeping us connected… or completely exhausting us? Plus: the joys of voice notes, GIFs, accidentally sending messages to the wrong chat, being left out of a group chat and why Mez takes approximately three business days to respond. If you grew up watching 80s and 90s TV, stayed home from school and ended up watching daytime soaps with your mum or grandma, this episode is going to unlock some serious memories. Welcome to The Midlifers - a weekly nostalgia podcast for Gen X and millennial women, filled with 80s and 90s nostalgia, funny stories, midlife chaos, pop culture and plenty of laughs. What daytime soap opera did you watch growing up? And which character do you still remember? Tell us in the DMs! ⏱️CHAPTERS 00:00 Welcome to our show 00:54 The beauty in silence + our challenge to you! 05:11 Mez’s yearning for Rob Thomas 07:34 Rant or Rave group chats 18:02 Do You Remember these daytime TV soapies? 38:53 Wrap up and see you next week ❗Wanna be a part of the action with our goings on and subscribe to our weekly newsletter?
