Ep73: Have You Ever Thought About How Many Days, Weeks, Years You Have left?

Have you ever thought about how many days you might have left to live? We mean, really calculated it?
Recently our Gen X Fiona was doing her calculations on how many days she has lived and how many she may possibly have to go, after seeing Steven Bartlett speak about his obsession with death (The Diary of a CEO podcast).
The realisation that she has lived for over 20,000 days and maybe has less than 10,000 to go was a shock. She always talks about being in the third stage of her life, but here was the reality.
Join us as we discuss what motivates you to be present every day, what gets you out of bed and what helps you get out of a low moment in life.

    Ep71: The Modern Day Academic

    Ep71: The Modern Day Academic

Who is an academic? Traditionally an academic was seen as an old guy sitting behind a mahogany desk with an impressive bookcase and a tweed blazer. He spends his days thinking and reading and writing and giving philosophical lectures to enthralled students.
In this episode we hear from Dr Katrina Long and our co-host Associate Professor Darshini Ayton on what life as an academic is really like. They share their own stories and results from a report they coauthored with collaborators from Monash University and the University of Melbourne on a national survey of Australian early career academics. It’s not all bookcases and reading. The modern day academic is facing many hurdles and juggling a lot of balls in the air to stay in the game.
A fascinating insight into the realities of a job that is often misunderstood and misrepresented.
