MURDERED: Christine Banfield & Joseph Ryan

When 37-year-old Christine Banfield and 39-year-old Joseph Ryan were found fatally injured inside a Virginia home in 2023, investigators were initially told that Ryan was a violent intruder and that Christine’s husband, Brendan Banfield, a federal agent, had tried to save her. But as investigators examined digital evidence, they uncovered a different possibility: that Ryan had been lured to the home through a fake online persona and that the scene had been staged to conceal a double homicide. What happened in the 15 minutes between two 911 calls? And what does the evidence reveal about the story investigators were first told?   Head over to our Crime Junkie YouTube channel to WATCH this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCRHdJ7TfmY Source materials for this episode cannot be listed here due to character limitations. Rosa McMillan (9 of Hearts, North Carolina)

Our card this week is Rosa McMillan, the 9 of Hearts from North Carolina.  On August 6, 1989, Rosa McMillian was found murdered inside that home. She had been brutally attacked—and sexually assaulted—in her own living room. The crime scene didn't make sense, and a few mysterious items were left behind by whoever killed Rosa. Something else left behind? The killer's DNA. In most cases, that would be enough to close the books. But in Rosa’s case…DNA isn’t what brought answers. In fact, it’s the opposite…and the one thing that would keep a solve out of reach. If you know anything about the murder of Rosa McMillan in Fayetteville, North Carolina, please call the  Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1529. You can also call Fayetteville Cumberland County Crime Stoppers Tips at 910-483-8477.   View source material and photos for this episode at: thedeckpodcast.com/rosa-mcmillan Let us deal you in… follow The Deck on social media. Talking Dateline: After the Flood

NBC News National Correspondent Morgan Chesky sits down with Lester Holt to discuss his episode “After The Flood.” On July 4, 2025, Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp located in the Texas Hill Country along the banks of the Guadalupe River, was devastated by a catastrophic flash flood. Described as a one-in-a-thousand-year storm, water levels rose rapidly, trapping campers and counselors in their cabins, while others tried to seek higher ground. Of the 119 people who lost their lives in Kerr County, 27 were Camp Mystic campers and counselors. Morgan shares memories of growing up in the Texas Hill Country and what it was like to return home and cover the storm’s heartbreaking aftermath. Lester reflects on interviewing a young survivor and the grieving mothers who continue to seek answers about what happened and whether more could have been done. Plus, they answer your questions from social media. Have a question for Talking Dateline? DM us @DatelineNBC or leave a voicemail at (212) 413-5252 –  your question could be featured in an upcoming episode. Blanche Taylor Moore, The Oldest Woman on Death Row (Part 1)

When the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation and Blanche was charged with the attempted murder, the arrest came as a shock to those who knew her. How was it possible that someone they all knew as “a sweet, Christian lady”—was an attempted murderer? And if she had been cunning enough to hide that side of herself from her community, what else had she been hiding?  References Associated Press. 1989. "Arsenic victim feels 'sorrow' for his wife." Maternal Instincts: Deconstructing the Netflix Doc and Why Women Fake Pregnancies & Cancer

I am joined today by true crime expert Dani Lyles from "Crime Doc Dani"! We dive deep into the unsettling world of pathological liars and the terrifying extremes of female deception. We break down the chilling Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct, analyzing how Taylor Parker's elaborate web of lies escalates to the horrific murder of Reagan Hancock to steal her unborn baby. We also draw fascinating, eerie parallels to other shocking cases, including the heartbreaking mother-daughter plot against Marlene Ochoa-Lopez in Chicago, the tragic betrayal of Heidi Broussard by her lifelong friend Megan Fieramusca, and the massive financial deception of Amanda Riley in the hit podcast Scamanda. It is an eye-opening, jaw-dropping episode exploring the ultimate masks of manipulation, faking pregnancies and cancer just to control the narrative. -Make your summer wardrobe feel easier.
