Doug Jones, Morgan McGarvey and Southern Democrats on the Rise

This week, Andy sits down with two Southern Democrats fighting for their people: Proof that this fight isn't just happening on the coasts. First, Doug Jones, the former U.S. Senator from Alabama and now the Democratic nominee for governor. Before politics, Doug was the U.S. Attorney who reopened the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing case from 1963 decades later and secured convictions against the Klansmen responsible. Now he's running against Tommy Tuberville in a race that's tightened into a real dogfight, with data centers emerging as one of the defining issues – Doug's proposing a one-year moratorium to put real guardrails in place, while Tuberville's dismissed residents' concerns outright. They get into all of it, along with Medicaid expansion and what it actually takes for a Democrat to win statewide in the Deep South. Then, Andy is joined by Congressman Morgan McGarvey, who represents Kentucky's 3rd District and is currently the only Democrat in Kentucky's entire congressional delegation. Morgan's spent his career in the trenches, from a decade in the Kentucky Senate to becoming the first freshman Democrat to pass a bill through the House. They talk about what it's actually like serving in Congress right now, what he's doing to push back on the Trump administration's immigration enforcement, and what happens when we flip the House this November. Faith, Basketball and Building a Legacy with Coach Jay Wright and Father Pete

This week, Andy sits down to talk about two of his favorite topics rolled into one episode: faith and basketball. He's joined by Father Peter Donohue, president of Villanova University since 2006, and Hall of Fame basketball coach Jay Wright, who led the Wildcats (not Kentucky, the other ones!) to two national championships and built Villanova into one of the most respected programs in the country. For nearly two decades, these two worked side by side – one running a university, one running a basketball team – and together built something that will outlast any single championship or strategic plan. They get into leadership, faith, and what it actually takes to build a culture that holds up under mounting political pressure. Father Pete shares what it's been like leading a major Catholic university through nearly twenty years of change, what he's learned about calling and purpose along the way, and a prescription for a kinder, more just world. Jay opens up about the moment he knew it was time to step away from coaching, how college basketball has changed since he built his program, what he's learned since moving on, and some hot take Final Four predictions. And of course, a little Kentucky basketball talk along the way. Plus, Andy and Jon sit down with Congressional baseball game MVP Rep. Morgan McGarvey (spoiler alert: next week's guest!) to discuss the hot topics of the week including Iran, gas prices, Trump as an asset or a threat on the campaign trail, the 2028 Democratic primary roadmap and a quick recap on what our former podcast guests are up to right now! And don't forget, Andy's brand-new book, "Go and Do Likewise," on how we heal a broken country, is out September 22nd, and he's hitting the road on tour – find a stop near you: AndyBeshear.com/tour  Merch store 👉 store.andybeshearpodcast.com/ Pre-order “Go and Do Likewise” 👉 static.macmillan.com/static/smp/go-and-do-likewise-9781250452719/ Meet Andy on the “Go And Do Likewise” Book Tour 👉 https://static.macmillan.com/static/smp/go-and-do-likewise-tour-9781250452719/ Follow us for behind-the-scenes and bonus content: Instagram: instagram.com/andybeshearpodcast/?hl=en Facebook: facebook.com/andybeshearpodcast/ TikTok: tiktok.com/@andybeshearpodcast Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Internet's Voice, DC's Next Fighter and What It Takes to Get the Right Attention

Eumie wants your attention. Zach Dembo wants your vote. This week, Andy sits down with two guests fighting for the future. First, Eumie, the creator behind Eumieverse, joins to talk about how she's built a massive following by translating news, politics, and internet culture into sharp, blunt, unmissable commentary – the kind that feels less like a broadcast and more like your group chat. She's become one of the voices a whole generation turns to instead of the nightly news, and she's got real thoughts on why that shift happened. After getting fired from her corporate job, she's made a career on honest vulgarity and snarky, under-30-second videos. Then, Andy is joined by Zach Dembo, who's running to represent Kentucky's 6th Congressional District. Zach spent his career in public service: teaching in the Mississippi Delta, serving as a Navy JAG officer, prosecuting civil rights cases at the Department of Justice, before resigning from a job he loved over what he saw happening inside DOJ. Now he wants to take that fight to Congress, running in a seat Democrats need to flip to retake the House, with the polling already tightening in his favor. Remember, the world may seem tough right now and that’s why we’ve got to do good things and be kind to each other. Scripture says, “If you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this hill, ‘Go from here to there!’ and it will go. You could do anything! ”Keep the faith, folks – a little goes a long way and will help us get through the tougher days. Speaking of keeping the faith, Andy's new book Go And Do Likewise is coming out September 22nd and we're taking the show on the road to cities near you. Secretary Tony Blinken, Breaking the Silence and Trump's Biggest Foreign Policy Mistake

This week, Andy sits down with two guests fighting for the future of this country on very different fronts. First, former Secretary of State Tony Blinken joins to talk Iran, China's race to dominate global AI, and what he calls the real secret sauce behind American innovation: the alliance between government, universities, research institutions, and the national labs, paired with a welcome mat for the world's best and brightest. Secretary Blinken makes the case that formula is being ripped apart right now, and lays out exactly what that damage looks like. Plus, he gets honest about his secret, surprising talent. Then, Andy is joined by Garlin Gilchrist, running for Michigan Secretary of State at a moment when that office matters more than almost any other in the country. Trump just used a primetime address to order the FBI to investigate long-debunked claims about Michigan's elections. His DOJ is sending federal monitors into three Michigan cities, including Garlin's hometown of Detroit. And Garlin's opponent, a sitting county clerk, has hired someone tied to January 6th to his own office. Garlin breaks down what it actually takes to defend an election right now – not in theory, but in practice. Will Beshear is back with a big announcement and drops some Gen Z Lingo. And Andy and friends share their thoughts on Trump's new Canadian tariffs, the latest loss of American lives in the Middle East, the Cyclospora outbreak, and the World Cup Final.
