Piketon Massacre: The Rhoden Family (Part 1)

Piketon Massacre: The Rhoden Family (Part 1)

Piketon is a small town in Southern Ohio, 90 miles east of Cincinnati with a population of just over 2000 people. It’s a salt-of-the-earth type of place, nestled in the heart of Appalachia, where many families can trace their lineage back generations. Everyone knows everyone, no one is a stranger, and when someone is in need all they have to do is turn to their neighbor. Bad things happen everywhere, even in small, tight-knit towns, but in April of 2016 something happened that no one had ever seen before, and it shook them to their core. Eight members of one family, in four separate locations, all murdered execution-style at the same time; it was a crime that most people only experience through movies, but the members of this quiet, hardworking town would soon find themselves thrust into the national spotlight, unwillingly living through a real life murder mystery and mourning a family who had been a fixture in the community.

Dan Markel: What Did You Do Donna Sue? (Part 8)

Dan Markel: What Did You Do Donna Sue? (Part 8)

In July of 2014, Florida State University professor Dan Markel dropped his two young sons off to preschool and made a quick stop at the gym before heading to his home in Tallahassee, Florida. Within minutes of arriving home, Dan Markel was shot execution style in his garage. In the aftermath, a lengthy investigation would follow that would include financial and phone records, surveillance cameras, wiretaps and a FBI sting operation, and what this investigation would uncover would shock everyone. In the case there have already been three criminal trials, four murder convictions and a fifth arrest, but new details and allegations are emerging every day, suggesting that there may still be more that we do not know about the shocking and tragic murder of 41-year-old Dan Markel.

Crime Weekly News: Jessica Gutierrez Killer Convicted

63-year-old Thomas McDowell was sentenced to life in prison for first degree burglary, kidnapping and murder in connection with the 1986 disappearance of four-year-old Jessica Gutierrez.

On June 6, 1986, the mother of four-year-old Jessica Gutierrez woke to find her daughter was not in their Lexington South Carolina home. A police investigation that followed found evidence that someone had entered the home through the window early that morning before taking Jessica and exiting out the front door. Although there were multiple land and air searches, Jessica was never seen again. It wouldn't be until 2021 that the case would be reexamined, and a lead would soon be found.

Awesome

I started listening due to the Markel case (I’m from Toronto too). Love all the extra details that were not mentioned in other shows. I am now a subscriber. I’ve never seen Big Brother, and never will, but thank you for being so genuine. Love the push and pull in your interaction with each other. And I love longer episodes!

Fav podcast

Have been a Derrick fan since Big Brother! Was looking for a new podcast and couldn’t believe my luck when I saw he was a co-host. Would love to see your opinion on Ryan Widmer/Sarah Widmer.

Disappointing

I used to like this show, but I now realize the podcasters do too much ad libbing and not enough research. Stephanie claimed that she didn’t go on social media to research which is fine, but you have to go somewhere. To say that Susan Smith had also killed her children in a bathtub? Come on. This is just one example of inadequate research.
