Dr. Karen Glass & Jessica Lang, Bonnie Fish & Jennifer Ouaknine, and Jack Lenz

This week on Finding Your Bliss, we have a show devoted to preserving fertility, even in the face of cancer. Life Coach Judy Librach sits down with Oncofertility specialist Dr. Karen Glass from the CReATe Fertility Centre, and also with a very happy patient who was able to freeze her embryos before cancer treatment and is now pregnant with her first child!

Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer at 33-years old and was told she needed to have surgery and treatment to remove it. After surgery, she was sent to the CReATe Fertility Clinic in Toronto to have her eggs retrieved as the cancer treatment could have hurt her ovarian reserve. She went to see Dr. Karen Glass at the CReATe Fertility Centre, and they decided to freeze her embryos instead of her eggs. As she puts it, “with Dr. Glass’s amazing expertise, I was able to retrieve 33 eggs, all of which were fertilized, and then 15 survived to 5 day blastocysts. This was a great turnout!”

On Valentine’s Day this past February, they did an embryo transfer and found out 10 days later that they are pregnant and expecting their first child!

More on Dr. Karen Glass: Born in Toronto, Dr. Karen Glass took her undergraduate training at University of Western Ontario, her medical training at University of Ottawa and her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Dr. Glass’ interest in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery brought her to Los Angeles and UCLA where she had a dual appointment in the divisions of REI and Urogynecology. She worked with David Meldrum’s team at Reproductive Partners Medical Group for the REI part of her training.

In 1999, she returned to Canada as Assistant Professor at McMaster University. In 2002, Dr. Glass moved to Toronto to concentrate her efforts on REI and specifically Fertility Preservation in oncology patients. She joined the CReATe Fertility Centre. She is their Director of Fertility Preservation. She is on staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Women’s College Hospital. She is Assistant Professor at University of Toronto.

She served on the executive of the Fertility Preservation Special Interest Group of the ASRM for 5 years (2009-2014). She is currently the Chair of the FP Special Interest Group of CFAS. She received a prestigious grant as a co-investigator from CIHR and CBCF to study young women with breast cancer (RUBY Study). She sits on the Oncofertility Working Group for Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology. This is part of Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC). She sits on the Medical Advisory Panel of Fertile Future. In October 2015, Fertile Future honoured Dr. Glass for her work with young people with cancer. Dr. Glass has spoken all over Canada on Oncofertility. She sees young cancer patients from all over Ontario who require consultation and help regarding fertility preservation.

Also on the program we have Bonnie Fish, the Board President of the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) and Jennifer Ouaknine, the Executive Director of the ICRF, to discuss exciting cancer research and their upcoming Women of Action 20th anniversary event.

Bonnie Fish is a partner at the Toronto Law Firm of Fogler Rubinoff LLP, and as mentioned, is the Board President of Israel Cancer Research Fund. Bonnie has been the President of ICRF for over three years now and she also sits on the International Board of Trustees. Bonnie is also a co-chair of ICRF’s upcoming signature event, Women of Action which takes place on Sunday May 15th at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

This week on Finding Your Bliss, we have a show devoted to dance, music, and mindfulness. Life Coach Judy Librach is joined by Sarina Condello, who is back on again to talk all about her new Canadian-made, interactive YouTube channel MOSI + MOO. This show is a combination of live action dance programming, featuring two loveable puppets MOSI + MOO, and of course their dance teacher friend, Belle, played by Sarina Condello. In this program, kids can joyfully “dance to learn” as the show integrates numeracy, literacy, and teaches dance skills to young children.

Sarina Condello has integrated her love for life as a stage and film director, choreographer, dancer, educator, motivational speaker, television host, and founder of Learning By Heart Performing Arts Studio based out of Toronto, Canada. For over thirty years, Sarina has traveled the planet, studying how humanity and divinity are experienced through the performing arts. By combining dance and theatrical elements, mime and expressive art modalities from around the world, Sarina has invented a teaching methodology that inspires and galvanizes children, adults and international artists everywhere and anywhere she visits.

As a TV personality, she has appeared on Global TV’s Pop Stars, Big Voice, and has been a movement coach for Battle of the Blades. Sarina has also created and starred in two TV series: Way Off Broadway and The Barefoot Dancer.

She has choreographed for Canadian musical artists such as: Marc Jordan, Amy Sky, Olivia Newton John, and Jane Siberry, and many more.

Her award winning documentary “Thank You Tanzania” has been screened throughout North America and won countless film festival awards.

To date, Sarina has created, produced and directed over 100 musical theatre productions for adults and children. Her dance classes designed for her neighbours and community seniors have been running for 20 plus years.

In 2021, Sarina, along with her business partner, Sarah Ferris, launched a new platform which focuses on the importance of movement for people over 50, called Sasa Fit. All of her dance classes are a fun adventure and they train your body and mind simultaneously.

Also back on the program we have Mindfulness Expert Linda Janasz, an integrative and performance coach, keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, meditation practitioner, researcher, and an award-winning journalist. She is also the founder of Mindful Alliance. In addition to numerous degrees, she also has a PHD in philosophy.

She continued her studies through the Milton Erickson Foundation, receiving a Masters of Psychotherapy as well as Buddhism and Leadership through Harvard. As well, Linda Janasz completed the MBSR (Mindfulness Stress Reduction Training) through the Behavioral and Collaborative Medicine Program at South Miami Hospital.

She developed and has presented the “MindMedMove” (MMM) Program, which is a dynamic 6-week training course that you’ll hear all about on the show. In addition, the “MMM” Program has been taught at Memorial Regional Hospital, Southeastern University, LLI and Gilda’s Club, where she received a programming grant.

Linda works with both individuals and organizations, including numerous Fortune 500 Companies, non-profits, and National Law Firms. Her “Gratitude in the Workplace,” “Working Wisdom,” and “Competitive Edge” column all highlight the benefits of Mindfulness in the workplace.

Linda Janasz is known for empowering individuals and companies to develop the skills, strategies, and practical applications to achieve resilience, productivity, motivation, and well-being.

And finally, closing out the show is one of our favourite singer/songwriters, the super talented Jules Halpern with her awesome cover of “In My Life” by The Beatles!
