I’m from Toronto, where you’re not allowed to talk about the Middle East because pro-Israel sentiment is so pervasive. I have been told to “get out of my echo chamber” and read more of the NYT. I’m so glad that I have this podcast as an echo chamber in which I feel less crazy.

Keeps me grounded as I attempt to navigate a sea of propaganda aimed at justifying the complete immiseration of Palestine and Lebanon. I remember taking a class on South and Central America history and thinking ‘where were those stalwart western journalists I’ve idolized when all these US backed coups and massacres were taking place throughout the 20th century?’ I now understand that when the hegemonic position of the western media is ‘it’s fine, all those people had it coming,’ it creates an all-encompassing shroud designed to shut down any concern for the victims on a human level. A rhetorical devision must be created between the innocent civilian and the bloodthirsty automaton driven mad by ideology. The western media just runs this Cold War-era playbook over and over again. At least this podcast exists - a cornerstone of burgeoning descent amidst a wasteland of propaganda
