They Know the Turf

Pod Save America is my go to political podcast as a Canadian watching in horror at what has happened since 2016 south of the border.
Things to Like:
1.
As my title infers, all 4 of the podcasters have expertise, having worked in Obama’s White House. This often allows for comparisons of “how it is” to “how it should be”. In this era of normalization through the constant repetition of evil, this part is invaluable.

2.
There is much humor in PSA. The podcasters are well-written and their punchlines range from the erudite to the profane. The jokes modulate the despair and ensure that the tone doesn’t become hectoring.

3.
They do their research and are trustworthy.

4.
They are confident without being cocky, thought-provoking without being boring, and have just enough banter amongst themselves to keep it from sounding like they are all preaching from the same book.

5.
They evolve in their positions, as thoughtful people do. I have been in favor of impeachment since the Mueller Report landed. I saw it as a moment of moral clarity. I was deeply disappointed when they backed Pelosi. But in recent weeks what has transpired has slowly but surely caused them to be more in favor of impeachment. I use this as an example, not to show I was ahead of them. I do not pretend to their expertise.

6.
They make the ads much less tedious.

What’s Not To Like?
1.
Canada is heavily invested in the U.S. Trump’s presidency is a danger to us (the end of NAFTA, the Meng We extradition.... PSA has had barely any mentions of Canada even where the topic significantly affects us. I know there is Pod Save the World, but I’m not sure we are much on the radar there either.

2.
A show in Vancouver would be amazing. This is a highly progressive city.

Centrist trash

Utterly unlistenable. The army of Jon’s spend most of their time shilling for Pelosi and the Democratic establishment. They’re mostly concerned with evading responsibility for their role in making Trump President.

Go listen to a better podcast, you’d be hard pressed to do worse than PSA.

Partisan hacks / necessary evil

These men would sound virtually identical if they were Republicans. They don’t have any viewpoints or beliefs – they just want their team to win. And there’s a place for that kind of brainless horserace tactician.

It’s called pod save.

The democrats do need them. But prepare to vomit in your mouth just a tiny bit.
