So this is generally a very funny and cathartic podcasts to hear about what now dead people were up to, mostly dunking on fools, but occasionally celebrating a problematic or genuine fave. It’s great, but I’m just here to infodump about reptiles for a bit, and to roast our hosts for not understanding BASIC BIOLOGY (cept Mandy, she was pretty solid, probably from all the Steve Irwin). Starting off with a minor one the common brown snake of Australia is venomous (injects a toxin into another organism such as through fangs) NOT poisonous (you kiss or eats a snek and go into cardiac arrest) common mistake though. Also kind of understandable is there are actually 2 species of alligators, although the Yangtze/Chinese alligator is critically endangered due to habitat loss. It’s understandable it could be forgotten alongside the more famous American cousin as those are more prolific. But to the unforgivable stuff crocodiles are not lizards! Cladistically speaking, lizards (squamate reptiles: snakes, geckos, monitors, agamid lizards etc) broke away from the archosaurs (crocodilians and birds [dinosaurs] being the only surviving members) approximately 300 million years ago in the Permian. You might as well call a chicken a lizard. Bindi Irwin was named after a majestic ancient creature that may have inspired dragon stories, not some mere lizard (although also have you seen lizard? Some have sticky toe pads to climb walls!). Anyways 5/5 learn basic biology and go watch Snake Discovery or Clint’s reptiles or something. And Mandy should be allowed to get all the sneks!
