    UNCLE BUCK

    UNCLE BUCK

This week it's all giant pancakes and cigar smoke as we get a visit from UNCLE BUCK! Yes, we're talking the 1989 John Hughes Film starring John Candy, an exceptionally precocious Macauley Culkin, the button-cute Gaby Hoffman and some other people. AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and PARIS

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and PARIS

It's Hallowe'en and we take a bite out of the night with AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS! Yes, it's John Landau's celebrated 1981 horror-comedy starring David Naughton and Griffin Dunne and another similarly titled movie! Okay, at least Paris gives us Julie Delpy (Before Sunrise), but we have to endure some really bad CGI and a werewolf rave. We howl about both these flicks (for perhaps different reasons), but have they transformed over time?

    MAGNOLIA with Shane Burley

    MAGNOLIA with Shane Burley

This week we wise up about Paul Thomas Anderson's MAGNOLIA! Starring an ensemble cast featuring Phillip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy, Phillip Baker Hall and some other people with three word names or a prominent initial. Coincidence? Oh also, Tom Cruise shows up I think. It's a long, sprawling movie about regret and forgiveness, but can we forgive a movie with a three hour running time?

    MANHUNTER

Put down the chianti, this week we delve into the cinematic origins of the Hannibal Lecter saga with Michael Mann's MANHUNTER! Starring William Peterson, Dennis Farina, Tom Noonan, Kim Griest and Joan Allen, this stylized 80's thriller was not a blockbuster hit like Silence of The Lambs, but in recent years has attained cult movie status. But what do we think about it?

A comforting, funny, hangout pod

Been listening to this podcast for a while now; the heart of it is the rapport between the three hosts, J.M, Rob, and Blaine, who each bring something unique to the table. Rewatching old movies can be really soothing: revisiting something familiar, engaging in a story world that is predictable, that never changes. You get a similar feeling listening to this podcast. Discussing the plot mechanics, memorable moments, and pitfalls of a Hollywood blockbuster from two decades ago is a charming distraction. With three guys who really care about movies, you get invested in their enthusiasm, which allows you a break from the anxieties of the news / your life. It's also always fun to talk about story, to reflect on responses to films, how they differ according to who's watching. Haven't listened to a single episode without laughing or learning at least one catchy tidbit. Well worth your time!!

Really enjoyable listening!

I love the premise of this podcast and the execution is really well done! The back and forth of the hosts is great and I find myself laughing out loud or nodding along with their discussions. And a big bonus that they’re Canadian just like me!
