I am a big fan of classic Simpsons and really enjoy what others have to say about it. when you're on topic, your show is insightful, informative, and very entertaining. Your comments and reactions are quite engaging and make clear that you are very knowledgable about the show. The way you move the conversation along with the regular insertion of great sound bites is probably what I enjoy most about what you do..
I’m old enough to remember a time when putting on a sitcom, watching a ball game, and yes, listening to a podcast about something one found interesting was a great way to pass a bit of time and get away from all of the headaches and tribulations of everyday life. Sometimes a person just wants to put their feet up and enjoy listening to or watching something and have a little bit of time when they don’t have to be thinking about the more difficult or annoying sides of life.
Sadly, for the most part, that seems to have disappeared from our world. I would quickly change the channel if Al Bundy went on a rant about how much he dislikes the Democrat mayor of Chicago. I wouldn’t bother buying tickets to a hockey game on pride night, not because I have anything against anyone, but simply because I’m there to watch a hockey game and nothing else. I have no interest in hearing anyone prattle on about pride anymore than I have any interest in having some slob brag about how he’s going to go home and “put the blocks” to his wife right after the game.
Of course it’s impossible to produce something like your podcast without injecting your own personality and worldview into the proceedings. Most reasonable people can accept that as being a simple reality. In fact, it’s your personality and the way you express yourself that adds a lot of colour and interest to what you have to say.
In producing a Podcast, The key is to be able to express yourself in a way that’s reasonable and respects your audience. Unfortunately, that’s where you seem to lose perspective a bit. Clearly, I’m quite a bit older than you and your guests. I’m also rather conservative in my views and in my outlook on life. I am not of the view that because you have a more left-wing or “progressive” view of the world, your opinions are of less value to me. I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t have a show of this nature and offer your viewpoint in a way that would be entertaining and enjoyable for me, regardless of my world view. I just find it rather sad that you seem to be unable to view your audience with the same respect and tolerance of their different perspective on the life.
you would do well I think, if you kept this in mind as you’re producing your shows. I don’t think Everyone who leans to the left is a pink haired, Raving lunatic. You would be well served to remember that not everyone who considers himself to be conservative is an authoritarian, intolerant Neanderthal.
Everyone gets that you’re gay. Everyone gets that you’re a man who talks about his husband. Anyone with any intelligence and any sense of empathy wishes, you nothing but success and a fulfilling life with your partner. But we don’t need it shoved in our face as you wear it like a badge of honour to demonstrate why that makes you better than someone like me.
Your podcast would also be that much more entertaining and worthwhile if you could leave most of the politics out of it. It’s clear that you spend your time on blue sky rather than that other app that’s been overrun by both breathing drooling fascists. I doubt there are very many topics or very many people on Bluesky that would lineup with how I view life. However, I don’t automatically assume that everyone on there is a raving tattooed and pierced lunatic. It’s unfortunate that you seem unable or unwilling to take an equally tolerant or reasonable view of anyone that you see as being on the other side.
I’ve listened to quite a few episodes of your podcast. For the most part, it’s engaging, well researched, and makes clear that you are indeed real fans of The Simpsons. But at this point, the issues that I’ve discussed have led me to the conclusion that as you currently conduct yourselves on a couple of points, it has essentially become unlistenable to me, and I will be looking for something a little more tuned to my taste and in line with something that I would like to spend my time with.
I’m not suggesting that you should never discuss the issues I’ve raised or express yourself as you feel comfortable. I only point out that there’s too much of it, and that some of it seems to be rather vicious towards anyone who may not completely share your view of the world. That’s unfortunate because aside from these points, you really do have a very entertaining and worthwhile podcast. For me, however, these things definitely take away from my ability to really enjoy what you do and that’s a shame. I don’t see myself continuing to listen if I find myself consistently aggravated by the way that you push things into your podcast that I don’t think are really related to the topic at hand.
I wish you continued luck, and I hope that you will strive to continue to produce very high-quality and entertaining podcasts. I hope that you will take my comments in the spirit in which I intend them. I judge neither your lifestyle nor your political use, but instead just want to point out that they can be offputting to others who might otherwise really enjoy what you do.
