Dr. Anshul Gupta is a best-selling author, speaker, researcher, and leading expert in Hashimoto's disease. Through his work, he helps people better understand the root causes of Hashimoto's and how a functional medicine approach may help improve thyroid function, reduce symptoms, and address the autoimmune process. Hashimoto's is one of the most common autoimmune conditions affecting women, yet it is often missed or inadequately addressed. Many women are told their thyroid labs are "normal" while continuing to struggle with fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, hair loss, mood changes, and other symptoms. In this episode, Dr. Gupta breaks down what may be driving Hashimoto's, why conventional treatment often falls short, and the lifestyle, nutritional, environmental, and emotional factors that can play a role in thyroid autoimmunity. In This Episode, We Discuss: How Hashimoto's affects the thyroid gland How Hashimoto's is diagnosed and why it is often missed Which thyroid antibodies should be included in your blood work Why looking only at TSH may not tell the full story Why conventional treatment may not address the underlying autoimmune process What thyroid antibody levels can tell us Who is most at risk for developing Hashimoto's Why women are disproportionately affected by autoimmune thyroid disease The infections that have been associated with Hashimoto's Why many women have more than one contributing root cause The dietary approach Dr. Gupta recommends for Hashimoto's The potential connection between gluten and thyroid autoimmunity How pesticides and environmental toxins may affect thyroid health Why emotional stress and nervous system dysregulation matter The stages of life when autoimmune conditions are more likely to emerge and MORE!     Sponsors Get 20% off your Cozy Earth Bed Sheet with coupon code HORMONES     Are you in perimenopause or postmenopause and struggling with symptoms—but not getting the support you deserve? HRT & GLP-1 Q&A: Progesterone Problems, Hair Loss, Weight Gain, and More

What do you do when you finally start HRT and instead of feeling amazing, you feel exhausted, puffy, bloated, or like something is just not right? Or you start a GLP-1, lose weight, and suddenly your hair starts falling out? Today's episode is another listener Q&A, and we are getting into the real-life questions women are asking when hormone therapy, thyroid treatment, weight-loss peptides, and menopause symptoms do not fit neatly into a textbook. We talk about progesterone intolerance, oral versus topical progesterone, when estradiol may still be too low even though your doctor says your levels are "fine," thyroid-related puffiness and fatigue, HRT after hysterectomy, and what women need to consider when starting hormones later in menopause. I also answer questions about GLP-1 nutrition, peptide stacking, hair loss during rapid weight loss, muscle and bone concerns, stalled weight loss, and whether it makes sense to start HRT and a GLP-1 together. This episode is all about troubleshooting instead of assuming there is only one right way to do hormones or weight loss in midlife. In this episode, we cover: Why oral progesterone can make some women extremely tired Topical versus oral versus vaginal progesterone What to look at when you feel puffy or tired on HRT Why estradiol levels should not be interpreted by numbers alone Thyroid testing when fatigue, constipation, puffiness, or brain fog persist Alternatives to hysterectomy for heavy bleeding and uterine problems How to eat while using GLP-1 weight-loss medications Protein, fat, and carbohydrate considerations on GLP-1s Combining GLP-1s with other peptides HRT after a breast scare and questions around route of estrogen Starting HRT later in menopause Hormone intolerance and why delivery method matters Whether tirzepatide works even when appetite suppression fades Muscle and bone concerns during GLP-1 weight loss Hair loss after rapid weight loss and how to support regrowth Who This Episode Is For This episode is for women who are already on HRT or GLP-1 therapy and have questions that are not being answered by the standard advice. It is especially helpful if progesterone makes you tired or puffy, your HRT does not seem to be working, you are gaining weight despite hormones, you are losing hair on a GLP-1, or you are trying to understand whether your thyroid, estrogen, testosterone, cortisol, or nutrition may be part of the problem.     Sponsors Timeline is offering up to 39% off your first order of Mitopure. GLP-1s and Menopause: What Every Woman Over 40 Needs to Know

You cannot open your phone anymore without hearing about Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, retatrutide, and before-and-after transformations. One person says GLP-1s are the greatest thing ever. Another says they are going to destroy your health. As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle. In this episode, I break down GLP-1s specifically through the lens of perimenopause and menopause, because midlife women are dealing with a completely different metabolic landscape. Estrogen is changing. Muscle is easier to lose. Insulin sensitivity may be shifting. Sleep is falling apart. Belly fat is showing up where it never used to. And simply telling a woman to eat less and exercise more is not a strategy. We talk about where GLP-1s can be incredibly useful, why HRT and GLP-1s are not interchangeable, and why protecting muscle has to be one of your top priorities if you are using these medications. I also get into dosing, microdosing, appetite suppression, thyroid and hormone optimization, realistic weight-loss rates, and why the goal should never be to get as skinny as possible as fast as possible. The goal is to lose fat while preserving muscle, supporting hormones, improving metabolic health, and having an actual plan for what happens after the weight comes off. In this episode, we cover: Why menopause changes fat distribution and increases abdominal fat for many women How declining estrogen, muscle loss, sleep, and insulin resistance affect midlife weight How GLP-1 medications work beyond simple appetite suppression Why GLP-1s are not "cheating" Why GLP-1 therapy does not replace HRT Whether HRT and GLP-1s can be used together Why muscle loss is one of the biggest concerns with GLP-1 use Why protein and resistance training matter so much Why having no appetite does not mean your dose is perfect Microdosing versus standard GLP-1 dosing Why increasing your dose too quickly can backfire What a realistic rate of weight loss can look like The importance of thyroid and hormone optimization when weight loss stalls Why maintenance needs to be part of the plan from day one Who This Episode Is For This episode is for women in perimenopause and menopause who are considering a GLP-1, already taking one, or wondering whether these medications could help with stubborn midlife weight gain. It is especially for women who want to lose fat without sacrificing muscle, energy, hormones, bone health, or long-term metabolic health. If you are confused by the microdosing hype, worried about muscle loss, unsure whether you should do HRT or a GLP-1 first, or wondering why your weight loss has stalled even though you are taking medication, this episode is for you.     Sponsors BEAM: Use coupon code HORMONE for 20% off your order Try the power of copper peptides on your skin today and get 20% off your order with coupon code km20 here.     Are you in perimenopause or postmenopause and struggling with symptoms—but not getting the support you deserve? Estrogen Dominance Explained: What Every Woman on HRT Needs to Know

If you are taking HRT, it is not enough to only ask how much estrogen you are using. You also have to ask a second question: how well is your body actually processing and clearing that estrogen? In this episode, I sit down with David Roberts and John Gilday from Mara Labs to unpack estrogen metabolism, estrogen receptors, environmental hormone disruptors, detoxification pathways, and why the conversation around "estrogen dominance" is often way too simplistic. We talk about the difference between having high estrogen and having estrogen that is not being metabolized efficiently, especially in perimenopause when estrogen can fluctuate wildly while progesterone starts dropping. We also get into xenoestrogens, microplastics, estrogen metabolites, the body's phase one, phase two, and phase three detoxification pathways, and why compounds like sulforaphane, resveratrol, black cohosh, and curcumin have become so interesting in the conversation around midlife health. The big message here is that hormone optimization is not always about adding more. Sometimes it is about making sure the body has the tools it needs to use, metabolize, and eliminate hormones effectively. In this episode, we cover: What "estrogen dominance" can actually mean in perimenopause Why low progesterone can change the way estrogen affects the body Estrogen receptor alpha versus estrogen receptor beta How xenoestrogens and endocrine-disrupting chemicals may interfere with hormonal signaling Why estrogen metabolism matters whether your estrogen is natural or coming from HRT Phase one, phase two, and phase three detoxification explained Why genetics may affect how efficiently women metabolize estrogen What sulforaphane is and why broccoli sprouts get so much attention Sulforaphane vs DIM for estrogen metabolism The roles of resveratrol, black cohosh, carnosic acid, and curcumin Why inflammation, oxidative stress, and detoxification are all connected How supplements may fit into a broader midlife hormone strategy   For the next week, Hormone Solution loyal listeners can get an exclusive 25% off all Mara Labs products when you go to mara-labs.com/HORMONES use code HORMONES at checkout. Your Body Isn't Broken: Why Doing More Can Make Midlife Worse with Debbie Potts

Have you ever felt like you are doing everything right and your body is just not cooperating? You are eating well, exercising, tracking your protein, fasting, taking supplements, getting your steps in, and still gaining weight, feeling exhausted, sleeping poorly, and wondering why the strategies that used to work suddenly do not anymore. In this episode, I sit down with Debbie Potts to talk about what may actually be happening when healthy habits become unhealthy stressors. We get into the connection between the nervous system, metabolism, hormones, muscle, recovery, under-fueling, overtraining, and the chronic stress load so many women are carrying in midlife. We also talk about why more is not always better. Sometimes the answer is not another workout, another fast, another supplement, or another hormone adjustment. Sometimes the body needs a completely different signal. More safety. More fuel. More recovery. More muscle. Less chronic cardio. Less obsession. Less trying to force your body into submission. This is a conversation about learning how to read your body differently and understanding that your body may not be failing you at all. It may be adapting exactly the way it was designed to. In this episode, we cover: Why women can do everything "right" and still gain weight and feel exhausted What Debbie means by "metabolic chaos" How sympathetic dominance can affect energy, digestion, sleep, and recovery Why chronic fasting, low-carb diets, and excessive cardio can become stressors The difference between AMPK and mTOR and why midlife women need both Why under-eating can slow metabolism and make muscle gain harder How protein and strength training help support a stronger midlife metabolism Why low HRV can be a clue that your nervous system is under too much load The role of the vagus nerve in digestion, inflammation, and recovery Why hormones and peptides may help, but cannot replace foundational habits   Visit Debbie's website.     Sponsors Timeline is offering up to 39% off your first order of Mitopure. Are You Actually Optimized on HRT? The Levels, Doses, and Symptoms That Matter

Grab Your FREE guide "Is Your HRT Actually Optimized?" How do you know if your HRT is actually optimized? Not just enough to stop a hot flash, but enough to support your bones, brain, mood, metabolism, sleep, sexual health, and overall quality of life? In this episode, I break down one of the most confusing parts of hormone replacement therapy: dose, levels, and symptom response. Because the old-school advice to simply use the lowest dose possible until your symptoms disappear does not tell us the whole story. At the same time, more is absolutely not always better. We dig into what the research actually tells us about estradiol dose and brain health, bone density, metabolic health, mood, and long-term outcomes. I also break down progesterone, why testing it can be so frustrating, what we know about uterine protection and sleep, and why some women thrive on doses that make another woman feel terrible. And of course, we talk testosterone. Why total testosterone is not enough, why free testosterone matters so much, what happens when androgen levels get too high, and how to find that sweet spot where you get the libido, muscle, motivation, and energy benefits without the unwanted side effects. The biggest takeaway? HRT optimization is not about following one rigid set of rules. It is about combining labs, symptoms, health history, dose, route, timing, and your own biology. In this episode, we cover: Why symptom relief does not always mean your HRT is fully optimized Why the "lowest dose possible" approach can miss the bigger picture How estradiol dose may affect brain, bone, mood, metabolism, and skin What research suggests about estradiol and hippocampal volume The timing hypothesis and why when you start HRT may matter Why there is no universally accepted estradiol "longevity target" Why progesterone blood testing can be so difficult to interpret Oral vs transdermal vs vaginal progesterone Common progesterone doses used for uterine protection and sleep Why total testosterone alone does not tell you enough Why free testosterone and androgen sensitivity matter Signs that you may actually be on too much HRT Why labs and symptoms need to be interpreted together   Grab Your FREE guide "Is Your HRT Actually Optimized?"     Sponsors Visit getkion.com/hormone for 20% off.
