611 - Jack Brutus Penny and Shaun Rivera - In The Cards

Why are magicians fascinated by playing cards? This week week have two separate conversations with two diverse people (one a creator and the other a collector) from two sides of the planet. Jack Brutus Penny is from England but lives in Japan where he is a teacher by day and a writer and playing card designer by night. Back in the U.S., Shaun Rivera is a magician in America’s heartland (Kansas City) who has a passion for collecting playing cards. This week the creator collides with the collector in an episode where we explore how cards are developed all the way to the retail buyer/collector.

    610 - TC Tahoe - I Heart TC

TC Tahoe is much more than a comedy magician. Currently hailing from the Sunshine State of Florida, TC is also an illustrator and a card reader. Yes, he has skills with playing cards, but I’m talking about Tarot cards. One of the skills he learned at a young, impressionable age was how to read Tarot cards and that has stuck with him all these years. TC has been nominated by the Academy of Magical Arts on multiple occasions for multiple awards but has yet to take home a coveted prize other than “also ran.” Oh well, perhaps some day. He has also worked at both Magic Island locations in California and Texas.

It has been over a year since posting a convention report. Even though this is a virtual event, it is an “invitation only” event and some might like to hear and see what went on and perhaps try to replicate some of the excitement for their own virtual convention.

It's like attending magic school without the tuition

I've been listening to Scott Wells' podcast since its inception. I first learned about it from his posts on the Genii forum and it's great that he provides updates whenever they are posted. Having access to the thoughts and experiences of so many magicians has been a blessing, especially those of us with limited incomes who can't afford to purchase a lot of materials. Scott's generosity and willingness to spend his own time to produce the podcast and provide it for free is incredible and greatly appreciated. Always looking forward to new instalments.

The magic word, the last word you need in a magic podcast

Scott Wells has been reporting on magic for a long time. The Magic Word is a great source for magicians to find out whats going on. But it gets better. Scott has taken the time to find some great interviews with people who think about the business of magic. He is well connected and is able to get some fantastic guests to appear on the magic word. Recent interviews like Paul Daniels were hilarious, and the interview with Shawn Farquhar was spellbinding and at times almost unbelievable. Subscribe to this podcast and listen to it. You’ll be glad you did.
