Heard an ad on Mr Ballen’s Medical Mysteries. This podcast is awesome. I’ve only listened to season one, hopefully season 2 and 3 are just as good!

I love the format. I hate the slow drip without a fact or evidence that can push the story forward however, that being said, I do feel we are working to something climatic. Hope we are. Thanks Payne. You push the Genre standard higher. Love the tension. Love the setting working to add to tension. Keep it up.
Don’t waste your time on Season 2

Loved season 1 but season 2 is not worth your time. Starts out great but ends in rambling phone calls with a person of interest that does nothing to add to the story.
Redundant redundancies a plenty.

If this show was 4 episodes instead of 8 it would be so much better, but the production / direction choices to draw the story out ruins the impact of the few reveals discovered along the way. The constant CONSTANT restating of information is infuriating - even at 1.5 speed it feels like episodes drag with the same info you already know being stated again and again. Just trim the fat - assume your audience are true crime fans and who can follow a thread and tighten things up. The team do a good job of making it about them doing the show rather than about the subject, getting in their own way. Which is a shame because it’s clear they have passion to crack stories and stepping back and letting the subject take centre stage would benefit the flow.

Stumbled on this and thought I’d give it a try. Very well done. I need to hear more and downloading more episodes.
Interview episodes painful

Generally good but episodes where you are typing and Jake is sniffing are awful. The noises are so distracting.
Seasons 3&4 are a vast improvement, UPDATE second half of season 4 goes way downhill
2024-09-16
I listened to this show in reverse order, and am glad I did. Obviously the production value improved, but the main difference is in Payne’s role and storytelling. There were definitely some cringe elements in season 1, but 3&4 (the 1st half) showed a real depth of empathy and advocacy for the MMIWG crimes and tragedies. Particularly season 4, where the family affected have a central step by voice. For those who liked the later seasons, I’d suggest Someone Knows Something, which I think is the gold standard for ethical, empathetic cold case reporting that centres the voice and healing process of the families at the centre. UPDATE the second half of season 4 includes almost no interviews actually conducted by Payne, just interviews with the PI, and is super repetitive. The inserted ads are also super annoying - I know you deserve to make a living but it is real cringe advertising a sports drink in the middle of the story. Just play an ad.
Am I on a loop

I’m a huge fan of UAV and Payne, but like, am I on a loop here? Can you give us something? Feels like I’m just listening to the same 4 episodes over and over🕳️
Repetitive
2024-09-12
Its so annoying how the same interviews, recordings, statements and theories get told over and over again from one episode to the next and passed off as new content. I feel like Payne is condescending to the audience and thinks we aren’t smart enough to know what he’s doing. Like - yea we heard about the rifle like half a dozen times already!
