Chicago Bears training camp is officially underway, and Day 1 already gave fans plenty to talk about. On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down the biggest takeaways from the Bears’ first practice of training camp, including the nickel cornerback battle with Kyler Gordon sidelined. With Gordon on the PUP list, Jaylon Jones got the first crack with the starters, while Josh Blackwell, Malik Muhammad and Cam Lewis also rotated into the slot. Gordon still has to earn back trust and dependability after another injury setback, making nickel corner one of the most interesting battles of camp. Haize also dives into the left tackle competition, where Braxton Jones worked with the first-team offense to open camp. With Ozzy Trapilo expected to miss most of the season, Jones appears to have the early edge, but Jedrick Wills Jr., Theo Benedet and Kiran Amegadjie remain in the mix. The Bears’ young offensive weapons also made noise, with Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland standing out early. Burden reportedly looked quick, twitchy and active both inside and outside, while Loveland showed natural hands and route-running versatility. Plus, Garrett Bradbury opened camp as the first-team center, Dennis Allen brought back his defensive up-down challenge, the punt return battle between Kalif Raymond and Zavion Thomas heated up, and Montez Sweat was activated off the non-football illness list after just one day. Finally, Caleb Williams had major praise for Colston Loveland, saying he can become the best tight end in the league — and maybe already is. Haize reacts to what that means for Ben Johnson’s offense and why Loveland could be one of the Bears’ biggest breakout stars in 2026.
