    When six-year-old Adam Walsh disappeared from a Sears at the Hollywood Mall on July 27, 1981, every minute mattered. But the search began with confusion: conflicting accounts, uncertain timelines, and assumptions that sent attention in the wrong direction. In Episode 2 of You’re Next Season 1, we reconstruct the first 24 hours of the Adam Walsh disappearance. From the toy department to the mall parking lot and beyond, we examine what witnesses remembered, how the store responded, and what Hollywood police believed had happened. At the time, law enforcement had no Amber Alerts, no national missing-children clearinghouse, and no established playbook for a child abducted from a public place. Information moved slowly. Agencies worked separately. And as John and Revé Walsh waited for news, the most critical window in the search for their son began to close. The first day of a missing-child investigation can determine everything that follows. In Adam’s case, it created questions that investigators would still be trying to answer 27 years later.
