Edward Buckles Jr., director of Katrina Babies, joins MALU in a conversation about the importance of building your community and the power of mentorship. Katrina Babies is a documentary film that has been in the works for seven years and was released on HBOMax on August 24, 2022. Buckles narrate this documentary and follow the stories of people who experienced the life-changing event of Hurricane Katrina. In this interview, MALU asks Buckles about his journey with filming, the power of storytelling, the intricacies of mental health, and creator representation in a state known for its little resources, but rich culture. From beginning to end, this conversation has priceless gems that every creator and/or person needs to hear. Buckles, the creator of an award-winning film that has contributed so much to Louisiana, reassures us that your journey will influence your destination.
