Hegseth: Today ‘most intense’ day of US strikes on Iran

The US Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, says Tuesday's attacks on Iran will be the most intense day since the war began. Echoing the words of President Trump, he said America would continue to fire missiles until Iranian forces were, as he put it, "totally and decisively" defeated. The world's biggest oil producer, Saudi Aramco, has warned of catastrophic consequences if the Strait of Hormuz - off Iran - is blocked for an extended period and we hear from people crossing the border into Turkey to escape the conflict continues. Also: Authorities in the US state of New Mexico have launched a search of the Zorro ranch previously owned by the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Several survivors have testified that Epstein assaulted teenage girls and women there, but the remote location has never been searched. The German carmaker Volkswagen has said it will cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by the end of the decade as its profits fell by over 40 percent last year. Plus, the rapper turned politician Balendra Shah is set to become the next prime minister of Nepal, with his party winning two thirds of the vote. Splinters, Thorns, and the Beauty of Your Portion

TAKEAWAY: In today’s reading, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh ask to settle on the east side of the Jordan. While Moses is initially angry—fearing a repeat of their ancestors' lack of faith—the tribes promise to fight alongside their brothers until the whole land is won. We then see a "walk down memory lane" in Chapter 33 as Moses records every stage of their 40-year journey. Finally, God gives a stern warning: drive out the inhabitants and destroy their idols completely. To leave any "junk" behind is to invite splinters in their eyes and thorns in their sides. God wants a total clean-up because He has a beautiful portion prepared for them. ACTION STEPS: Do a "Clean Out": God told the Israelites to demolish the idols so they wouldn't be corrupted. Is there any "old junk" or "corrupting influence" in your life that you've been tolerating? Ask God for the strength to drive it out today. Keep a Record: Moses wrote down the stages of their journey to remember God's faithfulness. Take five minutes today to write down three things God has done for you in the last year. Don't let those miracles be forgotten! Live in Abundance, Not Scarcity: Remember that the Lord is your portion. You don't have to fight for "scraps" in this world when you serve the God who owns the whole earth. KEY SCRIPTURE (NLT): "But if you fail to drive out the people who live in the land, those who remain will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides.
