Mo Gawdat on how to hack happiness

Our next guest on the DOSE Hacking Happiness podcast is the hugely inspiring, Mo Gawdat – the former Chief Business Officer for Google X, who struggled with depression after his son Ali sadly died.

Following this tragedy and after 12 years of research, Mo proposed an algorithm for happiness based on an understanding of how the brain takes in and processes joy and sadness.

His mission One Billion Happy is to help one billion people become happier as a tribute to his son.

This year, Mo launched a podcast called Slo Mo, believing that slowing down is the only way we can move forward which feels like a relevant message for 2020.

We couldn’t think of a better guest to help mark mental health awareness day. In this podcast we talk about the role of dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins in relation to our happiness, if/how we can recover from a terrible tragedy and if there is ever a “reason” for the event, his opinion on if it's possible to overcome depression and the disturbing truths of exercise addiction.

Diane Youdale aka "Jet" from Gladiators on Body Positivity

Diane Youdale aka "Jet" from Gladiators on Body Positivity

Our next guest on the DOSE hacking happiness podcast is 90’s icon "Jet" aka Diane Youdale from the hit TV show "Gladiators".

Diane Youdale, otherwise known as “Jet”, was an inspiration to many. All the girls wanted to be her, and heart throbs like Robert Pattinson, among many others, were in love with her. She was known for her signature hair flicks, athletic physique, cartwheels on the podium and her skill at navigating the "hang tough" event - a game of aerial chess.

We talk about her early years as a gymnast, her rise to fame during the show, the extreme highs and dangerous aspects of being a Gladiator - like falling 15ft from "hang tough" and from the top of "the pyramid" that almost left her paralysed. She discusses her transition to retraining as a counsellor and psychotherapist, her relationships both on and off the show and how her attitude to self-care and body image has changed over the years. She also hints at a Gladiators revival 30 years on - a possible reason for the launch of the GladPod podcast hosted by herself and journalist David Blackmore.

Get ready for a trip down memory lane...

Living hangover free with Ellie Webb (Caleño) and Millie Gooch (Sober Girl Society)

Living hangover free with Ellie Webb (Caleño) and Millie Gooch (Sober Girl Society)

After a brief hiatus, the DOSE Hacking Happiness podcast is back! To kick off Season 5, we tackle the topic of mindful drinking. The sober revolution is well on its way, driven by millennials and Gen Z's looking to live more healthy, balanced lifestyles without the hangover. In this podcast, we chat to entrepreneur Ellie Webb, founder of Caleño, a non-alcoholic, tropical free spirit, inspired by Colombia and Millie Gooch, founder of the Sober Girl Society - one of the largest communities for sober women.

We discuss how their relationship with booze has affected their careers, blasting the myth that alcohol makes us "more creative" in the boardroom or whilst penning a novel. How drinking has affected their relationships and libido, their confidence and self-worth, as well as their health and fitness. Millie also shares some insight on what it's like dating sober and how her friends reacted to her going teetotal.

If you are frustrated by the lack of exciting and adventurous alcohol-free options, try Caleño. A new Colombian-inspired non-alcoholic ‘spirit’ that has been joyfully distilled with light and zesty botanicals including juniper, pineapple, citrus, spice and the iconic golden Inca berry. The tropical blend is steam-distilled in stainless steels drums and perfectly served over ice, with tonic and your favourite tropical garnish. There are some great recipes to try available on the website such as ‘Tropi-Cali’ with Caleño, pineapple juice, fresh lemon, sugar syrup and refreshing mint, and ‘Dancing Queen’ with Caleño, passionfruit and vanilla syrup.

Pre-order Millie's book "The Sober Girl Society Handbook: An empowering guide to living hangover free" via Amazon
