    This week’s show, SKIES, sits somewhere between uplift and reflection. I found myself going down a bit of a historical rabbit hole learning about Haile Selassie and his time in Bath. There’s something powerful about imagining that moment an emperor in exile, moving through the same streets and spaces we pass through now. Bath Skyline

Closer to the present, we spent time walking the Bath Skyline Walk — open views, clear air, that sense of space that really connects with the feeling of this episode. Steve (2025 film) 
And then into Watershed to catch a film that really stayed with me. Seeing Little Simz on screen alongside Cillian Murphywas something else the performance, the atmosphere, the weight of it. Proper moving, and genuinely gripping from start to finish. Little Simz in particular was incredible.     This show is a personal one. My mum passed away at Easter in 2016 after a long battle with vascular dementia following a stroke. Alongside my sister, I became one of her principal caregivers for nearly 10 years from those early days of recovery through to her later diagnosis. Throughout it all, Mum held onto something powerful: a willingness to try new things, and a focus on what she could still do, rather than what had been taken away. That mindset shaped so much of our time together. One of her favourite places in the world was the River Severn. We must have travelled along it, over it, and even on it more times than I can count honestly, I’ve lost track. A few days after she passed, I went down to the riverbank. I stood there, looking out across the water, and said thank you to Mum, to the river, and to all the memories we made in that place. The music in this week’s episode reflects those feelings and more.     Thank you for tuning in to my new series of ElecSoul. This show has been a labour of love for over five years, and now it feels like the right time for it to grow, mature and spread its wings. The music will always remain rooted in soul and jazz influences, but I’ll also be taking the opportunity to share some of my discoveries and observations from the wider creative world of art, books, ideas and the things that inspire the music.
