    This week’s show is a reflection on Friday at the Brick Lane Jazz Festival a snapshot of a scene that continues to evolve, blending jazz, soul, broken beat and club sounds into something genuinely forward facing.

The live element is key. anaiis alongside Grupo Cosmo captures that improvisational spirit. A Friday that felt very special. I also made it down to the Music Is Black Exhibition at V&A East and honestly, I was blown away by the quality of the content. A powerful and important exhibition that really captures the depth and influence of Black music and culture. I picked up the accompanying book as well and looking forward to spending time with that over the summer.     TURNING TABLES

    This week’s show, Turning Tables, moves through soul, jazz, broken beat and smooth club sounds. I’m flipping between past and present, originals and reworks as per usual. Opening with Allysha Joy, whose work continues to sit at that intersection of jazz, soul and spiritual expression. There’s a reimagined song by Emmavie, before moving into her own Dropping Keys, full of warmth, Ooh and have a beautiful signed copy of Allysha’s 2024 LP The Making Of Silk. There’s a delightful thread of musicianship running throughout from TM Juke and Alice Russell, through to Bastien Keb and DJ Day — all groovy. I enjoyed playing Marvin Gaye and deeper cuts like The Frank Derrick Total Experience remind us of the lineage, while newer collaborations from Karriem Riggins, Liv.e, Goapele bring a fresh energy. The second half moves a little closer to the dancefloor with soulful, percussive contributions from Toronto Hustle, Sean Roman, Javonntte, and Roland Clark alongside Musclecars.

We took a trip out to Dylan Thomas’s boathouse the home where he wrote some of his most iconic work. Sitting above the Taf estuary, it’s one of those places where you really feel the connection between environment and creativity. Quiet, reflective, and full of atmosphere.     Show opens with a sense of purpose. Brian Owens & The Royal Five set the tone with a message-led warmth, before Loose Ends bring that unmistakable UK soul feel. I recently spent some time with Paula Rego’s work at an exhibition in Cheltenham. There’s something about the way her illustrations and way she twists narratives of the traditional nursery rhymes. At the same time, I’ve been revisiting How Music Works by David Byrne still one of my favourite books. The idea that music is shaped by the spaces it exists in really resonates, especially when thinking about how these tracks move between headphones, dancefloors and open air. There’s also a lot happening culturally right now with the Brick Lane Jazz Festival coming up next week. It’s another reminder of how these scenes continue to evolve, bringing together new energy while staying connected to the roots. All of it feeds into this week’s show. That sense of fluidity of things connecting the dots between old and new. That's Liquidity.     This week’s show, SKIES, sits somewhere between uplift and reflection. I found myself going down a bit of a historical rabbit hole learning about Haile Selassie and his time in Bath. There’s something powerful about imagining that moment an emperor in exile, moving through the same streets and spaces we pass through now. Bath Skyline

Closer to the present, we spent time walking the Bath Skyline Walk — open views, clear air, that sense of space that really connects with the feeling of this episode. Steve (2025 film) 
And then into Watershed to catch a film that really stayed with me. Seeing Little Simz on screen alongside Cillian Murphywas something else the performance, the atmosphere, the weight of it. Proper moving, and genuinely gripping from start to finish. Little Simz in particular was incredible.
