Tricia & Cathie: Race Across the World

Tricia & Cathie: Race Across the World

If you've ever thought of putting your life on hold to do an incredible, life-changing adventure then this is the episode for you!
We speak with Tricia and Cathie who competed in the BBC hit series, Race Across the World.
Tricia and Cathie were both in their 40s at the time that they applied for the show and were very settled in life with full time jobs and family ties. Little did they know that their application would be successful and that it would result in a whirlwind 2-month race across Canada, competing against four other teams.
Tricia and Cathie talk in depth about the challenge of pausing their busy lives to be able to fly across the other side of the world, and also talk about the challenges of being away for that length of time.
Follow their future adventures on Instagram.

Sarah & Harriet: Help We Bought a Village!

Sarah & Harriet: Help We Bought a Village!

In their mid-40's Sarah and Harriet decided that they needed a big change in their lives. Tired of working long days with little down time and tired of the expense of houses in the UK, they decided to sell up and move to France.
But this was no ordinary move. After searching online during the Covid Pandemic for a property with holiday let potential, they fell in love with a small hamlet in the north west of France.
Following their hearts more than their heads, they took the plunge and put a deposit down on their dream property.
One year on from the purchase, Sarah and Harriet talk about the stresses and strains of making such a big decision, the challenges they've faced to get a business up and running, and all the positives of starting a new life abroad.
With two Gites on their property already open for guests, and another Gite on the way, the couple have been working hard to realise their dreams which have most definitely come to fruition.
Follow their adventures either on their website or their Instagram page.

EP11 | Linda Wilmott | Independent Hostel Owner

EP11 | Linda Wilmott | Independent Hostel Owner

When the opportunity came for Linda Wilmott to leave her well established career in the civil service, she jumped at the chance. Her organisation were offering Voluntary Exit packages, and having got to a point of high stress and dissatisfaction with her job, she knew it was time for a BIG change. At the age of 47 she left the security of a career with nothing else to go to.

Linda applied for a voluntary role with Stirling Youth Hostel for six weeks, and in that time, she was inspired to try something new. She was already a keen hiker and loved the outdoor life. So after speaking with her partner and sister, she decided that buying a Youth Hostel would be her next step.

With no experience of hospitality previously (and lots of Googling), Linda, her partner and sister clubbed together to buy a hostel together in the heart of Cumbria.

7 years later, she is still managing the Alston Youth Hostel and despite the long hours, she has no regrets about changing her life.

Kate dot ,

A great listen

Have binge listened to the first season of this podcast while out walking. Love the honesty of the guests giving you the warts and all versions of the lives they have chosen. Given me plenty to think about reflecting on the pros and cons of my own life choices particularly the theme around trading off wealth and material goods for life experiences. Looking forward to season 2!

Giving me the confidence to go against the grain

I am really enjoying this new podcast. I’ve often felt like the regular path was not entirely for me but I don’t know anyone in real life who is not pursuing the standard job/marriage/house/babies route. This is where the magic of the internet and podcasts like this come into play! It’s great to hear others speak so positively about the roads less travelled and it reinforces my own choices to do things a bit differently, even if friends and family don’t completely understand or agree. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the season!

Ali Mahoney ,

Inspiring!

Okay so I’m a little bit biased as I’m one of the hosts of this podcast. But…the stories that we’re sharing from women who are Living Life Differently are really inspiring ME to reflect on my own life. After only a couple of episodes, Amy and I are seriously talking about ways that we can live differently as a family in the future.
