Good to know I wasn’t alone

SFL is a very reassuring podcast. I had thought for a long time that so many of the things that terrified me as a child were unique to me. Maybe it was just me. Maybe I’d just taken it wrong, maybe I’d imagined it. Well, apparently not. We were all scared silly, and often with good reason. Exploring the media landscape of fear in this kind of detail is a great primer for for media literacy in terms of seeing Doctor Who, public safety announcements and Hammer horror films in the context of their age just as it is a primer for interpreting current events. Thanks guys, be well, and remember, never look at a pylon through binoculars.

Surely it’s time to Talk about ‘the Singing Ringing tree’ - the creepiest kids show ever! - Also- when i was in my 30’s I watched the bbc version Of the Woman in Black- I had to stop watching it- so went to bed- opened a random book to take my mind off it- the first sentance was ‘the Woman in Black’ ! i don’t sleep anymore. love the show X

Some big names have appeared but to be honest even the people I’ve not heard of are so entertaining too. Highly recommended.

Absolute highlight of my week every time a new episode arrives.
Resurfaces dark, disturbing memories…. In a good way!

Ah, brings memories of scuttling down Trimdon Avenue in the dark to pick up a Sporting Gazette from Martin’s the newsagents, so that Dad could check his pools coupon, all the while thinking I was being pursued by the latest mid 1970s Dr Who adversaries. Surely there’s no better back to back Dr Who stories than ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’, hot on the heels of ‘Genesis of the Daleks’? Or, was it the other way round? That’s the beauty of this pod - you can remember and correct the mis-remembered. I do remember however, the Dr Who exhibition at the Town Hall early 1970s, having to be dragged in past the entrance Draconian waxwork.
Are you a 70s/80s kid who survived scary TV and film?…this pod’s for you!

One of my go-to pods at the moment. As an 80s kid fascinated by paranormal and scary stories and imagery in books, TV and movies growing up, this brings back all those unwanted memories! Their books are great too. Go buy one!
