FDA Authorizes Ivermectin for New World Screwworm—but There’s a Major Catch

Can ivermectin prevent New World screwworm in horses? The FDA has issued an Emergency Use Authorization for Ivermectin Liquid for Horses, but the authorization is limited to specific circumstances. It is prescription-only, provides short-term protection for no more than approximately 24 hours, and is not authorized to treat an existing screwworm infestation. In this video, we explain what the FDA’s New World screwworm emergency authorization means for horse owners, when ivermectin may be used, why it should not be administered routinely “just in case,” and why veterinary supervision remains essential. The authorization covers short-term prevention when Ivermectin Liquid for Horses is administered within approximately 24 hours after a foal is born or during the initial care of a fresh wound that could attract screwworm flies. It does not replace proper wound care, fly control, daily inspections, or treatment from a veterinarian. You will also learn: What New World screwworm is Why screwworm larvae are particularly dangerous Which horses may qualify for this medication How long the protective window lasts Why this product cannot treat an active infestation Why other ivermectin products should not be substituted Which wound changes require immediate veterinary attention How horse owners can reduce screwworm risks The FDA issued this Emergency Use Authorization on July 15, 2026. According to the agency, the product is available only by prescription from a licensed veterinarian and is intended for short-term prevention—not treatment. Read the official FDA announcement. This video is provided for educational purposes only. We are not veterinarians, and this information should not replace professional veterinary advice. If you notice moving larvae, worsening tissue damage, unusual drainage, a foul odor, increasing pain, or another concerning change in your horse’s wound, contact your veterinarian immediately. Las Vegas Stabbing: Sully Update

Many people have been asking how Sully is doing emotionally after the shocking horse stabbing incident at the Las Vegas barrel racing event. While Sully's owner has not yet shared details about his emotional recovery, she is continuing to follow his rehabilitation plan and will likely learn more as he progresses. At this stage, Sully is still restricted to hand-walking, so it is too early to know whether he has developed behaviors such as being hand-shy or showing other signs of fear related to the traumatic event. Emotional recovery after a traumatic injury can take time, and every horse responds differently. In this short update, we discuss what has been shared so far and what we are still waiting to learn. As more verified information becomes available from Sully's owner, we'll continue to provide updates. animal abuse

If someone is convicted of animal abuse, should they ever be allowed to own another animal? That question is at the heart of a major debate in the United Kingdom after a petition with nearly 240,000 signatures prompted Members of Parliament to discuss whether convicted animal abusers should face automatic lifetime bans and be placed on a publicly searchable animal abuse register. In this video, we explain exactly what was proposed, why so many people support the idea, why some veterinarians and animal welfare organizations have raised concerns, and what Parliament ultimately decided. We also discuss how these proposed changes could affect horse owners, dog owners, rescues, shelters, breeders, veterinarians, and anyone who cares about animal welfare. You'll learn: What the UK animal abuse register proposal would include Why nearly 240,000 people signed the petition The arguments for and against automatic lifetime ownership bans Why some charities oppose a public register How current UK animal welfare laws already work Whether convicted animal abusers can legally own animals again What this debate could mean for future animal welfare legislation For horse owners, this discussion raises important questions about accountability, enforcement, repeat offenders, and how best to protect horses and other animals from future abuse. While opinions differ on the best solution, nearly everyone agrees that preventing repeat animal cruelty should remain a priority. Whether you own horses, dogs, cats, livestock, or simply care about animal welfare, this is an important conversation that could influence future laws not only in the United Kingdom but potentially in other countries as well. As always, this video is intended for educational and informational purposes and encourages respectful discussion based on verified information. Can Your Horse’s Sleep Reveal Patterns Hidden Health Problems? Jagerbomb’s Incredible Discovery

Could your horse's sleep reveal a health problem before you ever notice anything is wrong? After winning the 2026 FEI Dressage World Cup Final, Becky Moody discovered something surprising about her Olympic horse Jagerbomb. Although he looked healthy, sound, and ready to work during the day, an artificial intelligence sleep monitoring system revealed that his body was still recovering from international travel. It took 16 to 17 days for his sleep patterns to return to normal, and at times he slept up to five times more than usual. In this video, we'll explain what horses' sleep patterns can tell us about their health, why REM sleep is essential for equine welfare, what causes sleep deprivation in horses, and how new AI technology may help owners and veterinarians detect subtle problems earlier. Whether you own a backyard companion, a performance horse, or simply want to better understand equine behavior, this video explains why sleep may be one of the most overlooked indicators of horse health. In this video you'll learn: Why horses need REM sleep Why horses cannot dream while standing What sleep deprivation looks like in horses Why some horses collapse from lack of sleep How pain, arthritis, travel, and stress affect sleep What Becky Moody learned from Jagerbomb's overnight AI monitoring How artificial intelligence could change equine health monitoring What every horse owner should watch for at home Chapters: 00:00 Can Your Horse Tell You Something While You Sleep? 01:31 How Horses Really Sleep 03:00 Why REM Sleep Is Critical for Horses 04:21 What Causes Sleep Problems in Horses? 04:54 Sleep Deprivation and Sleep Collapse Explained 06:03 Becky Moody & Jagerbomb's Surprising Sleep Data 08:00 Why Travel Affects Horse Recovery 08:32 Can AI Detect Health Problems Earlier?
