Michigan Dem Senate Hopeful Blames Israel for America's Problems

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager Scot Bertram is in for Jim for Thursday's 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Scot and Greg discuss Graham Platner exiting the Maine Senate race, the media's horrific performance on the Platner story, Bernie Sanders' other radical Senate hopeful in Michigan, and a pointless political controversy over coffee. First, they react to Platner's egotistical explanation for why he's being forced out of the Maine U.S. Senate race- it's the political establishment rather than his own mountain of scandals. Scot explains why he's suprised Platner withdrew so quickly, and they also discuss what impact a different Democrat will have on the race against GOP Sen. Susan Collins. Next,Scot and Greg skewer the media for their abysmal coverage of Platner. From the New York Times trying to discredit an earlier Platner accuser because she's a Republican to MSNOW admitting it only believes accusers who are Democrats to other lefties now pretending they were duped by Platner, it's been a total disgrace. And yet, they've likely learned nothing. Then, they shift to the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Michigan, where Bernie-Sanders backed Abdul El-Sayed appears to lead Rep. Haley Stevens. But El-Sayed is also on the defensive about his call to abolish ICE, blaming Israel for virtually every problem in America, and lying about his medical background. Will any of it matter when voters go to the polls next month? Finally, they sigh as a Milwaukee coffee shop issues an apology for taking a photo with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz on Wednesday. Fed Study Links Illegal Immigration to Much Higher Housing Costs

Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss the fallout from Graham Platner’s latest scandal and his leverage over picking his replacement, the end of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the U.S. and Iran, a new Federal Reserve study linking rising housing costs to Biden-era mass immigration, and the most recent development in the Mitch McConnell health story. First, Jim and Greg examine Graham Platner’s final days to formally withdraw from the Maine Senate race. Although Platner’s campaign is effectively over, he still holds the cards as there is no formal way for Democrats to force him to resign. Many speculate he is using this leverage to pick his replacement. Next, they react to President Trump’s deep frustrations with Iran. Speaking from the NATO summit, Trump declared the memorandum of understanding "over," calling the Iranian regime "scum" and "sick people" who cannot be trusted. This follows a major escalation last night, when the U.S. and Iran traded heavy missile strikes. Then, Jim and Greg dive into a new Federal Reserve working paper that links the Biden-era immigration wave to skyrocketing housing costs. The study reveals that the massive surge in housing demand, without a matching increase in supply, drove up home prices by 30 percent and rent by 20 percent. Finally, they cover a major update on Mitch McConnell’s weeks-long hospitalization. While top Republican senators claim to have spoken with McConnell over the phone to confirm he is alert, the strict secrecy surrounding his condition has left many deeply skeptical. Graham Platner’s Campaign Implodes After New Allegations

Radio host Craig Collins, host of The Craig Collins Show, fills in for Greg on the Tuesday 3 Martini Lunch. Join Jim and Craig as they discuss the latest scandal engulfing Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, the instability of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, the secrecy surrounding Sen. Mitch McConnell’s ongoing hospitalization, and Team USA’s World Cup run coming to an end. First, Jim and Craig examine the latest allegations against Graham Platner, which they argue have effectively ended his campaign. Platner's former girlfriend Jenny Racicot has publicly accused Platner of sexually assaulting her during a 2021 incident. In the wake of the accusation, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and Senate Majority PAC all withdrew their endorsements. Next, they analyze rising tensions threatening the fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire after reports that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missile strikes against two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Jim and Craig argue the attacks cast serious doubt on Iran's commitment to peace negotiations. Then, Jim and Craig comment on the ongoing secrecy surrounding the hospitalization of Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, who has remained hospitalized since June 14. They also examine the broader debate over aging political leaders remaining in office, noting that McConnell has served in the U.S. Senate since 1985. Finally, they break down Team USA’s tough 4-1 loss to Belgium in the second round of World Cup knockouts last night. The match was surrounded by intense controversy after FIFA suddenly overturned a red-card suspension for American forward Folarin Balogun, following a phone call from President Trump to FIFA President Gianni Infantino requesting a review.  Please visit our great sponsors: ZocDoc Your health matters and taking care of yourself shouldn’t be complicated. Controversy Erupts as Team USA Star Balogun's Suspension Is Revoked

Radio host Craig Collins, who hosts The Craig Collins Show, fills in for Greg on the Monday 3 Martini Lunch. Join Jim and Craig as they discuss Team USA star Folarin Balogun’s return after his red card suspension was rescinded, the release of a Chinese Christian pastor from a Chinese prison, Michigan State Sen. Mallory McMorrow’s decision to drop out of the U.S. Senate race, and predictions for tonight’s USA-Belgium World Cup matchup. First, Jim and Craig celebrate the return of top-scorer Folarin Balogun to Team USA’s second match in the World Cup knockout rounds today. Balogun received a controversial red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, which required a one-match suspension. President Trump called FIFA president Gianni Infantino to review Balogun’s red card, sparking outrage from the Belgian team set to play Team USA tonight. Next, they cover the release of Chinese pastor Ezra Jin after nine months in prison following Beijing’s crackdown on his unregistered house church, Zion Church. After President Trump personally raised Jin’s case with Xi Jinping during a May 2026 state visit, Jin was released and safely returned to the United States. The move is being viewed as an effort by Beijing to bank goodwill with Washington. Then, Jim and Craig react to Michigan State Sen. Mallory McMorrow’s sudden decision to suspend her U.S. Senate campaign just weeks before the Michigan primary. Her unexpected exit leaves a clear matchup between establishment favorite Haley Stevens and progressive Abdul El-Sayed. Finally, they give their predictions for tonight’s Team USA matchup against Belgium as the Americans look to advance in the World Cup knockout stage. Our Favorite Depictions of the American Founding in Pop Culture | Last Call

Welcome to a special edition of Last Call, which brings you the best of the week from the 3 Martini Lunch! However, as we mark 250 years today since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In this edition, Jim and Greg will share their favorite depictions of the American Founding and our Founding Fathers . First, they head to television, as Jim showcases the popular miniseries George Washington in the 1980's and Greg points to a specific episode from one of the most popular sitcoms of that decade, Family Ties. Next, Jim recommends the HBO series focusing on a Founding Father who deserves more attention - John Adams. That series was based off a book by famed historian David McCullough. Greg highlights another McCullough book plus a two-volume set of novels that are good for any age. Then, Jim dives into the popularity of the Broadway hit Hamilton, which tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and so many others from that era. Greg gives a shout out to the Mel Gibson movie, The Patriot. What We Love About the American Founding

Join Jim and Greg for a special Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss many different reasons why they love the American Founding and why we all ought to be grateful to be the heirs of that amazing era in history. First, Jim is thankful for the incredible collection of intellect, wisdom, and courage of our founders. From Washington to Adams to Jefferson to Hamilton to Franklin and many others, he says America was blessed with the right leaders at exactly the right time. Greg focuses on the revolutionary ideas of that movement.  Next, Jim points to some of the flaws that have come out about our Founding Fathers over the past 250 years. But he explains how those flaws actually help him appreciate our founders more. Greg takes a similar line of thinking by noting that "all men are created equal" was not a reality at the time but Jefferson's words became rallying cry to bring change during the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement. Then, Jim shows some love to the allies that helped us defeat the heavily-favored British Empire. And it wasn't just the French. Greg applauds one of the most critical moments of the founding era, thanks to George Washington. The Left's Double Standard on Political Labels

Radio host Craig Collins, who hosts The Craig Collins Show, fills in for Greg on the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch. Join Jim and Craig as they discuss Team USA's historic World Cup win, a weak June jobs report, and the hypocrisy of the media deeming it unfair to call the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) communists while being quick to call those on the right fascists. First, Jim and Craig celebrate the success of Team USA in the first elimination round of the World Cup, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the knockout round. They highlight the significance of this victory heading into the country’s 250th anniversary. Next, Jim and Craig break down the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ June jobs report, where the unemployment rate ticked down to 4.2 percent but the U.S. added only 57,000 jobs against an expected 115,000. They point to the labor force shrinking by 720,000 people from May to June as a sign of a discouraged workforce. Finally, Craig and Jim highlight that Republicans get called fascists like clockwork, while CNN's Kaitlan Collins rushes to argue it's unfair to call DSA communists. They mention New York Democratic congressional candidate Dalisa Avila Chevalier, who has called herself a communist and supports abolishing the police, as evidence the label holds up. Jim notes some DSA members openly say they want to seize the means of production. Birthright Citizenship Fight Enters a New Chapter

Radio host Craig Collins, who hosts The Craig Collins Show, fills in for Greg on the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch. Join Jim and Craig as they discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on birthright citizenship, an NPR reporter’s erroneous reporting on Justice Samuel Alito’s retirement, and a New Jersey Congressman’s return to office after four months of leave, where he received treatment for depression. First, Jim and Craig address the Supreme Court’s upholding of birthright citizenship and express their concerns with birth tourism. Given the Court’s interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment, Jim argues that any changes to birthright citizenship must come from lawmakers. Next, they blast the major reporting failure by NPR reporter Nina Totenberg, who claimed Justice Alito was retiring, without sufficient confirmation. Totenberg claims to have misheard Chief Justice John Roberts mention retirements and jumped to the conclusion that he was referring to Justice Alito. NPR quickly retracted the reporting. Finally, Jim and Craig react to Republican Thomas Kean Jr.’s return to Congress after taking a four-month sabbatical to deal with a depression diagnosis. Prior to speaking publicly about his departure, the Congressman had stated an undisclosed medical issue for the reason of his absence. Jim and Craig question whether Congress members with mental health diagnoses are apt to work in a career with immense scrutiny.
